What makes you think people don't do it at other stores?  I do it to make sure none of them are sticking to the carton.  I bought a carton of eggs like that one time and I couldn't get them out without breaking them.

Too damn bad. Dont like it? Deal with it.

Most of us check the eggs to make sure they are not busted. I for one hate to go home and find one or more egg busted in their cartoon. So yeah, I WILL touch the eggs to make sure none are broke

I rarely have to do this, but... I sometimes have to open up an egg carton and touch ONE egg, just to see how cold they are. This is only when I find them just laying around the front end or stuffed in an aisle and I have to reshop them. I need to decide if the eggs are cold enough to be reshoped or not. The only way is to touch one of them, cause the carton itself doesn't allow you to feel the cold through it.

I only use one finger, the upside of my pinkie finger tip. And I use hand sanitizer before I do it.

What difference does it make? Unless you use eggs while they're still in the shell then they're fine.

It's on the eggshells. Not on the insides. Unless you are a wack-o who eats the shells, then it's not s big problem. All you do is rinse the shells if people are freaked out by it. And what about fruits? Millions of people touch apples, oranges, and other fruits that you can buy singley... : /
