Maybe someone you counted on seeing every week and all of a sudden they don't come in to your store anymore? There is a sweet old man I miss terribly. He really loved us front end people.
Yes, some of the sweetest people I've ever met were older folk. Eventually their candles reach their endpoint and flicker out. I've been to several funerals of friends who started out as nothing more than customers.
May they Rest In Peace.

There was a guy who we nick named Cat Food Man, as he was absolutely fixated on Little Friskies Turkey and Gibblets. What ever we had on the side counter he'd sweep everyone of 'em off into his cart---then stare you right in the eye and say 'anyone bitches, you need to order more'.
Anyway, yeah, he was the proverbial grumpy old man, but he was overall ok. And, he did operate as a catalyst for me to quit smoking. Over the course of about five years, I watched this guy suffer horribly from COPD / emphysema (believe me, you do NOT want to go like that), constantly struggling for breath he could never catch, even with oxygen supplementation cranked up to 4 liters (that's A LOT).
He was one of the few people I've personally known who I was grateful for when he died.
