i am in the cincy/Dayton area I am a cashier. For the last few weeks frontend has been scheduling front office help to operate registers until cashiers gets in. That used to be a no no years ago. We are being scheduled 10-6 11-7 11-8 while frontend people gets off at 2, 3 or 4. Word is corporate is causing this. Is there anymore stores doing this? Cincy/Dayton got a new president from Michigan. This is when all this started. Do not know if union will do anything about this. It is in the contract that they cannot do this. Any more frontends doing this?
If you have seniority you should still be able to bump for an earlier start time or file a grievance. If you do not have seniority claim into another department for earlier start time. Division Pres just started days ago, moving people back is a normal occurrence. With SBG and the adding of more SCO's expect these shift unless your one of the most senior people.
I heard that this is happening in all the stores on the frontend. Even if you file a grievance getting your union to do the right thing is impossible. I swear Kroger is paying the union. I have come to the conclusion if you at that magic age of 65 get out of Kroger and enjoy life while you can.
If they are of the journeyman pay scale that is okay. Same pay scale = same job even if they care cross trained in it. The difficulty it does is that these people are not trained to stay at the check stand and run away after the order is done. This leads a gap in the scheduling and skeleton crews the front end. All stores do it. We need to change the clause in the union that says "call your side department for cashier relief". This is what is allowing them to do it.
