I was hired as a Courtesy Clerk a couple months ago. I really enjoy the job, and don't have any major complaints (other than the horrible pay). I just think I'd like being a Cashier more. How long does it typically take for a CC to become a Cashier or otherwise get promoted?
I don't know if I'd call it a "promotion." We're all paid the same. We're all classed as "Front End Clerks." Unless you're a manager, then THAT is a promotion.
That being said, in my store, they'd be more than happy to train you as a cashier. In fact, they did that to nearly ALL the baggers. They desperately needed the help. It's like instant.
There's this one guy who started out as a courtesy clerk just a couple months ago. Now he's doing the service desk.
Sounds fair. But don't cashiers gain seniority and baggers don't? And there's not even a slight pay increase?
LOL your not going to get any seniority for being a cashier or even a bagger and kroger sure in the hell aint going to give you any more money to bag grocerys or even run a register
look in your contract or on https://secureweb.kroger.com/gp/gplogin and it will tell you when your next pay raise will be
most likely you will get 10 -15 cents raises once a year and thats it
Here at my store baggers/ cashiers start out at 7.75
It's pretty much impossible for a courtesy clerk to become a cashier at my store.
If you are a good courtesy clerk, you are too difficult to replace. They will have to train you and your replacement, and your replacement will probably be retarded or a hardcore slacker. If you are a bad courtesy clerk, the best you can do is to get sent to the Island of Misfit Toys (aka the Fuel Center) when you turn 18. Or possibly maintenance or the deli if they only moderately dislike you.
The best you can hope for is to move to a department. That's only possible if you manage to impress one of them or if they are truly desperate.

In the front end you wont get an actual promotion (pay raise) until you get to the ACSM level. Even Office helpers get paid the same as a cashier unless someone is on vacation, then they get their relief pay.
