I'm a new hire within Local 1059. I thought the Intiiation Fee was $50, which I reached in YTD deductions last week. This week's paystub, it still came out and my YTD amount is $60. Is that normal?
union dues are taken out every check forever and ever
This-- it's $10 a week. I don't mind paying it because I've worked non-union jobs where I got no breaks and no vacations, schedules were mutable so you could never plan ahead and the best hours went to whoever sucked up to management the most, and corporate could and did fire people on a whim. I appreciate them putting limits on the company, even if they aren't perfect.
If it helps, the insurance is dirt cheap once you get it, which more than compensates for the dues.
The question is what does the union do for us? Oh yea, takes oyr money and we get crappy raises. Raises should be based on performance not what the union says.
