So I've been working for Kroger for about a month now & almost a week ago the store manager & my overnight manager came up to me while I was running backstock & basically asked me if I wanted to be the new supervisor under my manager. It was a very casual conversation & I was pretty taken aback that they would ask me so soon, seeing as how I've barely been here for a month. All I could muster out was literally a "wow" & "really?" Definitely no answer came from me lol. So a couple hours later my manager came up to me & told me we would talk more before I left in the morning. Now about a week has passed & nothing has been brought up. I'm kind of afraid to bring it up myself because I personally don't feel as though I'm supervisor material & I have no idea how to bring that up even. I would love the pay raise & all, but I just don't think I'm ready to supervise the whole team like I still don't know where everything is. Do y'all think since it's been almost a week & nothing has been brought up that he has found someone better suited? Or is he waiting for me to approach him? This work atmosphere is really weird lol
In my experience, generally when they ask you that, they are looking to see your aspirations and not necessarilly offer it right away. If you arent interested, dont do it. Or maybe talk with your overnight manager about what his job is like. Night lead is a very high-stress and responsibility filled job. It could be simply that they see youre smart or capable and are wondering if youre willing to help him and be a backup. Learn the gun-work and whatnot, the numbers, and train to relieve the night lead when they need it. If youre willing, just put yourself out there and bring it up. But if not, then just keep stocking and keep it simple, your pay will get better with time.
and yes. Kroger has a very weird work environment. Every comanager has a game they like to play, and they expect you to play it and it can change at anytime. Its all politics with them, where as night shift is more community unless the blood is bad. Watch what you say around them.

They probably see that you have common sense and are a self starter.
Only take the position if you really want it.
I doubt the money is that great but might be nice when the department manager is on vacation. If you really like the job and want to sign bids for other stores, then this would be great experience for you.
You will learn everything quick if you have some smarts....
My back up gets stressed every time I am on vacation.
If you're willing to advance let them know that. It's never too late, but if you act as if you're not interested then when the opportunity is available they will over look you. By them asking you they recognize your abilities. It's not necessarily going to happen in a week, but they see you have the potential.

Don't do it. If they're asking someone who's only worked there a month to work in a supervisory position, it means that nobody else wants the job because they know it's a big headache and not worth the measly few cents more and hour in pay. Only seek advancement when you know it's right for you. If you're the slightest bit unsure, then wait.
Usually when they're asking someone who has only been there a month to take a position like that, it is only because no one else will take it. At our store they need a new Assistant department head and no one will take it, because the extra $0.50 isn't worth the hell that comes with it.

BAM. You nailed it. They went to the KNG who doesn't know better
