So what's kroger all about?

They kinda hyped themselves up in my interview today. Better than walmart, we're union, you can move up etc etc

I've been desperate for work so I didn't ask all that much but what can I expect? I'm in Arkansas. Any good benefits during/after the 60 day trial period?

I've worked in grocery stores before and I'm not a huge fan of doing it again but ideally I'd like to get educated in something-whether they pay for it or the union-and move up asap or just get transferred to a warehouse anything is better than lousy 8.50 hour

Union is crooked stealing 8.50 to 10.50 a check for fees. Managers are clueless. You wont ever get full time. Enjoy your 5 or 10 cent raise every 6 months. You wont move up unless you lick a penis or suck a vagina. People sh!t in the bathroom on the floor and walls. Associates play Fortnite while on the clock. And if you manage to do a good job they will just load you up with more work to do. Go to Walmart. Kroger is horrible

I'm reading some states like West Virginia and new jersey are getting better contracts but of course I can't find anything for Arkansas. Do people even go to their union meetings?? lol I'll just have to call and ask Monday and hope to not get disappointment.

The better than Walmart thing is true. But that's a very low bar

Here's the closest thing to the real picture you can get:

Retail in general is a terrible career choice, at least on the hourly end. Salaried sucks too, but at least you have some career options and job security. Kroger, Walmart, Food Lion, etc., etc., it's all the same.

You're much better off researching a solid college degree choice or industrial trades/health care/civil engineering certificate program.

Which ever way you go, you want to ask yourself: is the job I'm seeking simple, unskilled labor anyone can be paid chump change to do? Let that be your guide.

Yeah I hear you. I'd like to end up in the warehouse or office doing something with as little training as possible and decent wage. That's why I'm thinking about tolerating cart pusher, courtesy clerk etc.

What's Kroger all about?  It's dead-end part-time-only wagecuckery.  It's a race to the bottom of retail hell with Walmart.

I doubt it's any better than Walmart.  Walmart pays higher starting wages, and our deli is basically Walmart's deli training center.

The union is disinterested and toothless.  Call the union to ask about benefits.  They won't even pick up.  If you get in trouble and finally get ahold of them after calling for a week, they will just tell you to quit.  That way, you stop bothering them and the store doesn't have to pay unemployment.

The union is also incredibly expensive.  It would cost me ~$720 a year (I didn't join since I'm in a right to work state), and I'm not even making a living wage.  Benefits are incredibly cheap, but aren't very good and are worse every year.  You don't get any, I think, during your probationary period.

There are some brand new education benefits, and they are completely useless.  Unless you want to be a courtesy clerk, they will not work with you on your school schedule.  We have had employees drop to courtesy clerk just so they could go to school.  Otherwise, schedules are somehow both semi-random and set in stone.  And if you have a manager that dislikes you or just has a hole in the schedule, you will be scheduled during class every single week until you drop or fail.  That happened to me.

Kroger is the fourth worst paying corporation in America.  If you are smart enough to power on your computer and come here, you can probably do better.  I understand if you have bills to pay, but don't stop the job search.  Kroger is not a place to build a future.

Wow.  Oddly enough, that's about the most uplifting thing I've heard lately.
