When store managers, co-managers, dept heads, and back up dept heads check stuff on their phone, off and on, all day long, how do you expect anyone to take such a "rule" seriously? Please!
The "lower ones on the totem pole" are being given an example by their leaders...........and it isn't a good example. Most (not all, but most) typical employees will not "live on a higher moral plane" than their managers/supervisors!!!
Kroger managers need to learn what "leading by example" really means. Just like if a dept head was coming in late all the time. Who would expect the associates under them to be highly concerned about not being tardy?
I use my cell phone constructively at work all the time. This policy is a bit short-sighted.
I've given customers directions. I've looked up recipes for them. I've speed-researched the difference between two cuts of meat when the meat department wasn't available. I've found the nearest open pharmacy for someone who walked in with a prescription and a hospital wristband at 11 PM. I've found out where to buy products we don't carry. I've looked up product information. I've demonstrated how to load digital coupons in the app.
I don't think they're going to write me up for using my phone to help a customer, either.
Today we had to sighn a paper about cell phones. Any other stores doing this ?
Didn't sign anything about cellphones at my store. Although deli got a talking to about not having our phones out. Cause a customer swore up and down they were waiting for help for like 20 mins and nobody helped her cause someone was on their cellphone. Which I know isn't the case for deli. Now mind you, if it's closing in bakery, one of the college kids is always on her cellphone listening to music.

We had to sign a paper stating that we will only use our phones on lunches or breaks. Or unless its necessary for ACTUAL business needs. Ive used my phone to figure out a price difference for a customer via the calculator or to call another store when we were not near customer service center to use a phone

The original cell phone policy was not to have it on you when your at work. With the introduction of the Kroger App, etc....they then I thought updated it to basically say your allowed to use it for "business" reasons, but the company wasn't going to reimburse you for its usage. In reality, most policies put in place are shortsighted.
Yes my store did it also. someone at my store just got fired for consistently refusing to put their phone away
The only time I will not put my phone away is when
1. I am on my breaks. That is MY time.
2. When I am off the clock.
Then youre doing it wrong. Every one is on their phones all day in this sh-it hole. If theyre not watching porn listening to music or on twitter/x they are playing call of duty or fatnight. That or talking as well

I've been in multiple stores. I've seen associates signed the no personal mobile usage forms, but continue to be invested on their mobiles. One associate was recording snapchat while working on a mild busy day, another associate was live streaming on instagram at the end of rush hours, an third associate was talking to relative while ringing up customers...but it's an mixed bag of reasons why associates are using their mobiles while on the clock.
Its honestly wack to be honest I feel like Kroger thinks they run a plantation they way they place rules around the company outta no where and I swear they switch it up everyday stores down in Houston cant even keep an employee for more than 6 months without someone leaving due to the crappy attitude and disrespect and lack of communication and concern they have for their pickup team and front end when they are sever understaffed
Its a joke. ASSociates sign it but disregard it. 5 mins later ASSociates still smelling like sh-it sniffing each others butts while on their phones. Amazing you all can buy a iPhone but cant buy a bar of soap to wash and brush your stinky buttholes
