Kroger says they'll stop using plastic bags by 2025 but I honestly cannot see how they will do that. Im a cashier on the front end and barely anyone remembers their reusable bags anyway. Not only that, but we are almost always out of paper. All the time and people are pissed. I dont know how they will manage to keep paper in this store. When there is no plastic what happens then, there's no bags for people? People are gonna be beyond pissed if they have to buy bags at the store if there is no paper. The way things currently are it just seems unrealistic to me. I hate plastic. I think its wasteful and a huge pain and is ruining the land and oceans and just littering the world, they also are a pain to get open, but other bags are kind of a pain to get and use. I can see people throwing huge tantrums and leaving their stuff, throwing it on the floor and walking out I have experienced at least one person do exactly this Half the customers that want paper just end up bagging in plastic and change their mind halfway through anyway or want plastic inside paper(doubled of course) of course we lowly front enders will end up being screamed at and get all the abuse over this. I just have no idea how its gonna work unless everyone can suddenly remember to bring their own bags or they can actually keep paper in the stores(which now they cant seem to)
I thought the goal was to have customers always bring their reusable bags, idk. Beyond that, though, paper and plastic bags are ordered and arrive on your nightly grocery trucks. Itks likely that one of your front end managers, your grocery manager, or your night leader orders them. Clearly, they need to order more.
But seriously... Honestly? If corporate is gonna make promises, they can figure it the **** out. I put the stuff on the shelf and try to give an extra sale here and there. If theres no way place for bags anymore, people will have to put their groceries loose in their car, remember their own bags, or pitch a fit so that Kroger will back down and offer bags again.
Or start getting their groceries elsewhere, of course.
I always hesitate to say never, but on this one Ima make that call. Other retailers have tried the reusable bag thing before, walmart tried that several years ago. It never works.
Well honestly I have no clue what is up with this paper bag situation. Whoever orders them is clearly not ordering enough to meet the store's demand because we run out at least once a week and have none and have to tell people that ask for paper bags that we are out of them in the whole store. Sometimes people think we're lying and look around but there isn't a single paper bag. They're angry occasionally to the point they demand their whole order be canceled. Or just complain to us that we need to fix it but never go and talk tp management themselves. Most people want to use paper bags and a lot want it doubled. They never have enough to meet the customer's demand. My guess is they dont want to order more because they cost more to buy than plastic, and we sure are never out of plastic. They are seriously gonna have to change the way they do things because if they dont, people willgo somewhere else.
Same here. We're always out of paper bags at our store. Sometimes they take some from Clicklist, you know the Clicklist branded ones, but they run out as well.
Every store runs out of Bags from time to time, but I know I made many or trips to other stores if needed. If anything they will eliminate plastic bags, but introduce the "Corn" based bags. If you ever traveled to coastal regions, they have been using these for years. Or if they had to paper will be the only option, which will be a bigger expense. I can see retail basically getting state govs. to introduce "bag bans" to force re-usable or a " bag tax" on paper bags.
kroger way of doing it is, roll it out and dont give any explanations or directions as to why they are doing it and letting the rest of us figure it out.
Had a guy come up to me and ask me if it's true that Kroger is planning on not using plastic bags after a while. I said yes. He then said since that was the case, can he have a whole bunch of bags.
I looked at him kinda funny for a second and told him he can have a few bags, but not like a whole box worth. I mean, even we rarely get new bags on time.
So like, what? If Kroger was NOT planning on stopping their use of plastic bags, he would NOT have asked me for the bags? What?! lol

Well they will give an explanation of why they are doing it, but direction.......or way to actually accomplish it?
If why want to eliminate some bags now...why not change Clicklist or Instacart over to paper bags or boxes.
