No info given in advance on contract
Permalink

Here in ufcw 1059 we are to vote on contract change next thursday.  Information will only be given on the day of the vote and at voting locations.  Is it normal to not see the details before showing up to vote?  Hate this.  I want to show up, encourge everyone to vote NO and tell them to bring the same contract offer back in two weeks so we can talk about it.

1059 is near me. We are 911.  That is utter bull done purposely. Id vote no on principal. Its manipulation tactic to rush things through that otherwise need a closer look.

Is this Columbus oh area? This sounds just like my union local75 Cincinnati/Dayton did in March of this year. Sprung a new contract on us out of the blues. We did not even know that they were talking about the contract with Kroger just came into the stores and said you need to vote yes on this contract. Needless to say I went to the union hall on that day and voted no on the contract. I did not like how the union did this. Always before years ago we had meetings about the contract  but not this time. It still passed which I knew it would because people are stupid. I was getting that feeling that my union was in Krogers pocket and after this I really feel like it. Yes your union can pull some dirty things against your wishes. I have a feeling that your contract will turn out like it did in my area. You will have a $800.00 deductible on insurance. New people starts out at $10.00 a hour. It took me at least ten years to to $10.00. They put drug gm employees in grocery contract so they could have more money. But people that were hired after 1982 got only 30 cents for three years. We should have got more than 30 cents. The union pushed for that contract hard. Good luck!!!

The only part of the contract that is changing are the wages. The union and Kroger renegotiated starting wages and pay raises for all current employees. our store let us know about it early last month and the union did send something in the mail. And if I recall correctly when we voted on the current contract we didnt receive any info on it until we went to vote.

Yea, got some info about the wage change in my area as well through the mail before hand. However, I agree with the original poster, that they should have sent out some kind of indication on what the negotiations results were going to be. So that way, you actually have time to think things over before coming into to vote. Finding stuff out last minute, just makes things feel so rushed and kind of puts you on the spot, in my opinion. I also think the voting locations are so far out of the way, that there is no way enough people that would want to vote, couldn't really do so in the time frame that they had posted in the flyer, at my store the other day. Most especially if you have to work that day.

Agreeing that this whole thing is bull****. I'm guessing they don't want anyone to have the time to compare it to the existing contract and see that it is a worse deal overall.
