How often have you been asked to work at another store, in your area? As well as out of your area?
Just wondering, cause I just got a out of left field call, yesterday from my Sr. deli back up manager, asking if I could work in the morning at another store. In what I found to be in a whole other county or so away from where I live. Which wouldn't be too much of a prob, if I had a bit more reliable transportation right now(car issues lately so in and out of the shop, and been kind of doing some carpooling with a few co-workers), as well as the fact, that I had just worked 10 consecutive days at my OWN store since the Tues. before last til last Thursday. So yea, to say the least, I wasn't thrilled at the prospect of doing an 11th day in a store and even town I don't know like that.
But yea, was wondering how common it is for other stores to lend out their employees this way in other areas/store.
It depends on the situation, in my district i've seen quite a few emails being sent out asking for deli or bakery help in other stores. Sometimes overtime is approved, sometimes it's not but it's on a volunteer basis. I've helped in a couple other stores before. In my opinion it's good to help when you can because then hopefully people will return the favor for you.
You get mileage for it? I've never gotten mileage but i've never tried asking for it either. I work in a store 30 miles from my house now so i'm used to driving.

Yea, I do get the returning the favor aspect of things. I guess being on for 10 days straight had me feeling less hospitable to help another store. Most especially as we often need help at times. But only ever seem to get other local stores wanting to print stuff off our printer or access to our supplies.
Remember,working over 40 hours in a week is OT PERIOD!!!
Yea, I know. And the DH came to me about working the 6 days straight for that week of the Kids Night Out thing around beggar's night. But he failed to inform me of the fact that my next days off wouldn't show up til the FOLLOWING week was nearly through. That's why I get uber annoyed about the communication at my store. I mean we get all kinds of OT do to the big holidays and what not this time of year at my store. Especially for the bakery as we just don't have enough bodies down there. But still...
I knew a guy who was a produce lead asked to work a store across town in the ghetto. He was reluctant-----for what turned out to be good reason. While he was in the store his driver's window was smashed out and his car stereo stolen. This was in BROAD DAY LIGHT
I've helped out at several stores. Mainly for remodels/re-merch, and once when a brand new marketplace was being opened. Both when I was a checker and now that I'm in grocery. I actually think it's fun, meeting people and seeing how other stores do things. I've also picked up training for new skill sets from it. The marketplace opening was especially interesting, since I was there before the place was open to the public and we were there to set everything up. By the end of my couple weeks there, the night crew foreman kept bugging me to transfer, but no thanks on the 45 minute commute... and it wasn't long after that I heard the entire night crew walked out one night. The grocery manager there did seem like a bit of a prick.
