New job opening denial
Permalink

I have been with the company for nearly 10 years and have heald different positions for different lengths of time. Every time I apply for store Management, e-commerce or either positions in the warehouse or division office I always get turned down with a reason why or either a chance to interview. Is their something I can do because I think its really unfair not to be given a chance to interview. I would talk to my store manager but we dont really see eye to eye on some things. (Never disrespected her) but I really want to do something different

Well the first thing they will do is contact your Store Manager and ask about your work performance. If your Store Manager isn't speaking highly of yourself, they will most likely not interview or move to the next step with your application. In reality any promotion to the jobs listed would need to be a current Department Head or have a BA degree.

Don't pay any attention to what this moron says. On every public site there's at least one dork who thinks he knows everything, and on here, it's him.

It's true, even if you're a good worker, if your store manager won't stick up for you it'll be hard. It's also extremely difficult to get those positions without being at least a department head.

Off topic, but: Anon, you can't just say that without providing proof that EUID is wrong. Or at least provide YOUR suggestion. So we can compare two answers and chose which one to believe in. So far, everything EUID_Unknown said rings true. Where are your informed and helpful posts, anon?

So, Anon, What is Your suggestion?

Managers talk to each other about employees. If there is an employee that one manager doesn't like, then none of them give that employee a chance. You can give 100%, and they will still not consider you. I know through experience. This is why I have given up on promotions. I just do my job and when people ask me if I'm trying for certain promotions, I just say I'm not interested anymore. At Kroger they don't promote you on experience, they promote you on how well you kiss ass.

Do you know any coordinators/managers at the district level? If you do and are on good terms with one or more of them, then get with one of them and explain the situation. Keep in mind this will likely irritate your store manager and could make life at work somewhat more difficult for you, but your only other options include: give up and just stick with what you're currently doing or wait it out until you get a new store manager who may be more receptive to your wishes. I try to stay on good terms with people in general so that if someone gets a promotion to a district-level job, should I need someone to go to, I have some options - so right now, for example, I know two former co-managers that have positions at the district level that I still see on occasion. They know my work ethic and like me personally, so it's just kind of nice to know that I know some people that I can go to if need be.

In reality everything inside the company is accomplished by networking. Even in the stores you can network by just using Yammer or just talking with people when you have a visit. If you see a group visiting, make sure you engage them and show you know whats going on. For FE associates, if you see an associate discount, talk to these customer and get to know them.
