Christmas promo candy/gm + grocery thanksgiving distribution makes this the best time of the year. Who the hell needs space to operate, just keep piling it on us corporate...
Plus it's now turned into the hunger games for u boats.
That's why even during the slow times of the year I tell people in my department if you take a u-boat from our department to the back room to get product, make sure the u-boat stays in our department after you unload it. Also, make sure you hide it or load it up with product to keep the stock crew from grabbing it. If you leave an empty truck or one that just has a few boxes on it in your department, it will be gone the next morning. Of course that doesn't mean you should hoard the u-boats either. We use what we need. If I think we have too many, I return it to the back.
It gets where literally every sq. ft. of space becomes a valuable commodity, fiercely fought over. Every dept. tries to monopolize all the area they can---like theirs is the only comcern of the store .... I've seen teetering, barely stable shrink wrapped pallets double and triple stacked and packed side to side behind the steel such that no one could even get to them, without having to clear out the whole ware house. Pallets of holiday merch. stored along all the action alleys and customers pissed because none of it was ready for sale.
