I leave when my shift is over. If I need to stay over due to someone calling in, I stay to get the work done. I like my job and am well compensated.
The fools are the one's that stand at time clock at 552 and clock out at 553. Or, clock in from break at 552 and clock out of the shift at 553. Some managers take notice when people clock out at 553.
Most contracts give management the ability to tell people to mandatorily stay after their shift for an hour as long as the person is told an hour before the end of their original shift.
Right now, available hours will probably be lower for a few months. With less hours available, the work pool will probably be thinned out depending on how over/under staffed your store is.
If leaving a task unfinished only affects me, then I'm taking my last break 15 minutes before my shift is over and punching out at the 7 minute mark. If leaving a task unfinished affects somebody else, then I stay until it's done. Although, there have been times when others didn't return the favor
It's funny how your attitudes on that change as you get older.
When I was young, of course I wanted nothing but to be out of there as fast as my feet would jet me----and I didn't care that I was often leaving undone work that others behind me would get stuck with. I genuinely thought it was bs when I'd get in trouble for it.
But now I'm where I just do what needs done. The way OT is frowned on in every line of work now, it's not like I'm required to spend my whole lfe on my job. And there's a lot to be said about having a mature, professional work ethic. That never goes out of style.

Imo there's no reason to stay past 53. you get paid the same whether or not you stay til exactly when you're scheduled It means those last 7 minutes are unpaid labor basically.

except that you are scheduled until 'on the dot'. Kroger doesn't *have* to give you that "7 minute rule" If I was your boss and noticed anyone taking advantage of this and leaving at :53, they would begin to be scheduled 15 minutes later. a 9-5 shift (where you'd leave at 4:53) would become a 9:15-515 shift, putting you there a little bit later.
Only occasionally will I leave at 53... usually I just get whatever task I'm working on finished then look at the time. If it's 53 I can usually find something to do for a few minutes at least. On the other hand, there have been times when I'm there til :07 or later. Plus I'm often late (in at :05-:07) so I figure I should stay my full shift. Some people clock in "late" :05 and leave at :53. This is a problem.
I'm on the front end. Management gets real pissy when people leave at 53 since that leaves just enough time for things to get ****ty until the next shift shows up, and especially if the next shift shows up at 7 past.
For cashiers, it pisses off the rest since it's just enough time for lines to blow up, which might prevent them from leaving on time.
