"Grocery stores have also made their checkout lanes purposefully narrow. This is so that when you're unloading, if you suddenly realize you've impulsively and regretfully thrown in a $15 small bottle of freshly squeezed orange juice, it's too hard to get out of the checkout lane to go and put it back."
Uh, no. Customers will just stash that refrigerated/frozen item somewhere among the magazines/candy where it will eventually reach room temperature and start stinking up the place/melting all over stuff.
It's not often a customer will hand something to the cashier/bagger and apologetically say, "sorry, I've changed my mind on this item". Those that do, hey I give a lot of credit to because at least they are being honest and don't want the product to go bad.
almost every single thing they list goes back to one major point- getting you to look at more items. What I think is trickery is the "sale" price of 99 cents when the regular price is 10/$10. A whole penny! But that yellow tag must mean it's a good deal!
Also sometimes I go shopping for my usual things and I can't find anything on sale; well I'm not falling for it and spending more. I work there so I'll wait til the stuff I normally buy goes on sale. I'm not paying $3+ for a tv dinner that I know will be 2 for $4 soon, that'd be silly. Usually I'll walk a little further down the aisle and find another brand on sale, but like I said, sometimes nothing is a good deal. I walk on.
Not the same, but one ugly trend I'm noticing recently with Kroger---their discount card ain't much good for SH!T anymore. And nooo, it's not the items I buy, been getting the same stuff for years. There's just an increasingly less amount of discount on things.

That and... is it just me or is Kroger pushing more and more of the types of sales where you have to buy x number of items in order to get the sale price? Seems like those sorts of sales are becoming more frequent which is really, really frustrating because of how fast we run out of many of these popular "mega event" items. Ugh...
Thanks for that article. It makes me feel intelligent, knowing I don't fall for any of that crap that apparently most of the population does, with the "tricky" ways of listing prices, etc. Logically-wired brain for the win. I've never had a problem knowing what I want before even entering the store and not leaving with extra junk I wasn't specifically there for. I like to be in and out as quickly as possible at any place I go and don't browse.
