How to ask hr for a transfer

So if I need help transferring, or I want them to transfer me to another store, how do I do that? Also should I trust their judgement as far as picking a store goes? If I ask them for help will they stick me in a horrible store.

There's a form you have to fill out.  Just ask for it.  Be sure to get the right one.  One is for transferring to another department within the same store.  The other is for transferring to a different store.  If you want to transfer to another store, first make sure that store has an opening for your position.  Also, if your current department leader doesn't want you to leave, they can block the transfer.  They're not going put themselves in a bind to help another store gain a new employee.

I don't have a Dept manager, just a lead so I doubt he can do anything

I'm actually going through a transfer right now. Last night was the last at my old store, and I'll be starting at the new one tomorrow night. Before I said anything to anyone at my current store, I first checked out a couple other stores in town, talking to a manager to see if they actually had room for me. The first one didn't have a grocery manager (dep't I'm in), so I talked to the HR Manager/Assistant Store Manager. They had room, but the fact that they didn't have a grocery manager was a red flag for me (could mean he quit from stress; I've seen it happen a few times). Second store had plenty of room for me and full management, so I talked to the grocery manager. I actually started my Kroger career at this 'new' store and left four years ago, and there were people there who really wanted me back and so pushed their management to help make the transfer happen. So I went back to my store and filled out the store transfer form I got from my HR Manager/ASM. A week went by and I didn't hear a progress update, so I went back to the store I'm trying to transfer to and they said they hadn't received any paperwork. However, my going back got their HR manager to call my store to see what was up. My management didn't want me leaving and so were sitting on the form (what can I say, I care about doing my job well). The next day at work, my HR Manager talks to me and says I've got two more nights left before starting at the new store. I couldn't be happier, that store's management sucked... well, all the store's I've even helped out at have sucked, but "some are more equal than others," if you pay enough attention to yours to know what I mean.

That so reminds me of the store at I'm at right now.  They don't want me to leave due to having a," good work ethic," as they've said.  What they do not know is I'm applying for a merc position at one of the soda companies with better pay and starting early in the morning.  I was blocked from getting a lead position that'll pay more so I'm giving them a stealth," F U," once I get the position.  Good luck my man.

Good for you! I especially like your part about keeping quiet about your moves----'loose lips sink ships', as the old saying goes. Glad you've found a better deal and are jumping ship, too many people whine and cry for YEARS without doing anything about it.

I would go back to the store I started at but i live too far from it now. Good job going to your new store. And thanks for pointing out the missing management thing. I will pay attention to that.
