Truck driver shortage in Louisville (and probably elsewhere too)

Today I pulled the bills for the bakery frozen order and and there were 23 scratches.  It was all stuff we needed too like bread dough and cakes.  I asked the deli manager what was going on and she said it's because they were short on drivers and they couldn't make full deliveries.  So instead of loading maybe two stores' products on a truck, they're now loading three stores worth.  I guess they load as much as they can so each store at least gets part of their order and the rest gets left behind.

That might explain why I didn't get any of my muffins that are on my front table, my cinnamon rolls that go on my primetime rack, or my country french bread dough. All major items right now and all being scratched. I didn't print my bills today but i bet we had about that many scratches too in Cincy division.

I'm sure the scratches and loading isn't related, well other then if the orders are smaller more store orders could be loaded on 1 truck. In reality, the warehouse is most likely running just like the stores are....lean on product. Think how many stores are ordering from 1 warehouse....and then what happens when 2 orders going into the warehouse is delayed.

I agree with EUID.

The warehouse probably doesn't have the product.  There might be a shortage of drivers bringing the products to the warehouse.  The "buyers" might not be ordering enough product

from the suppliers.  The suppliers might not be making enough product.  Kroger has been growing fast and sales are hard to predict.

It makes no sense to select the products onto pallets and then only send half the pallets.  They don't have time to return everything back to its slot in the warehouse.

The warehouse can easily make a few phone calls and hire independent drivers to make deliveries if they have enough trailers.   In our state, all our warehouses were moved back in state and the warehouse has hired independent drivers to meet delivery demands.

If you scan the product in cao, then press "ctrl O", then "enter", it will give several reasons for why the product was scratched.  "Screen scratch, buyers adjustment, vendor allocation, Late truck to warehosue, out of stock, out of season, future delete, product unavailable, temporarily unavailable, etc"  I think the warehouse randomly picks reasons why the products are scratched so they don't use  the same excuse too many times.

It's a joke around here that if kroger put it on a really good sale, the warehouse will already be out of the product before the sale begins.  And, not have the product until the sale is over.

Whoever is in charge of ordering for the sales events(the buyer), is not timing the supplies very well.

O.P. here.  Today we had 22 scratches out of 62 items ordered.  We didn't get in any bread dough.  We didn't get it any cupcakes.  We didn't get in any pre-iced undecorated cakes.  We didn't get any Primetime bread.  They did however send us two cases of 12-inch apple pies and 1 case of 12-inch pumpkin pies that we did not order.

wonder if those were billed.  The lack of intelligence from the warehouse is really astonishing.  They send **** that we don't even carry.  If it's not on the list, don't send it!

The 12-inch pies were on the bills.  We didn't order them.  They were added out.

Well, alot of the Bakery stuff is actually manufactured by a company factory......

I have always thought it was funny, limit the BOH in the stores.....and tell them to order the items more often..........did anyone tell the warehouse? So instead of the stores randomly ordering 3 at a time, each stores is ordering 1 case each day. Does anyone else see the issue, if the item is to be sold, it still have to be in the supply chain. If the items is a slow mover, you should have a big shelf allocation and wouldn't need to stock it regularly. Did anyone else at one time have a 4-6 foot section of just store Creamy Peanut Butter? So 4-6 feet of Creamy Peanut Butter 2 Height, oh, OE, you only need 30 jars.....so literaly its an empty shelf.

Geez, our scratches haven't been quite that bad. They are scratching all my single serve table items though. They don't want us putting the in store made things on it anymore due to the labeling concerns so idk what i'm supposed to be putting on it.

I have a whole cart full of Valentine's Day stuff that they sent too early. Because we aren't allowed to put it out yet, they want the seasonal table to be Super Bowl. So i'm sitting on this cart full of crap, that is taking up room in my freezer, and i'm sure it'll say i'm overbought. They should be able to factor out the distros in my opinion.

We've been seeing a lot of scratches, too, and half the items Clicklist (er...Kroger Pickup) needs we don't have!

Something is certainly going on...

The truck driver shortage isn't anything new.  I bet it's corporate shenanigans at the warehouse.

The pallets we get are more ridiculous than they have ever been.  We are getting crooked pallets, random pallets, wobbly pallets, dangerous pallets, pallets with crushed layers, dripping pallets, pallets taller than the doors, pallets that fell over in the truck, all kinds of stuff.

I bet the warehouse is getting the same nonsense as the stores.  There's no way it isn't some combination of absurd programs, unrealistic productivity goals, and cut hours.

Actually, Kroger has been bragging about automated robotic warehouses.  It could also be that Kroger is trying to cut back until they start coming online.
