Hello, laddies and lassies. For those of you who remembered what happened here: https://www.wfaa.com/article/news/mesquite-family-accuses-kroger-manager-of-racially-profiling-teenage-boys/287-626251526, there was a letter sent out to the rest of the stores. I, along with a few other co-workers were called into the office to have it read to us by management. And of course it had "feed the human spirit" and "uplift" and all the other stuff like that. What it boiled down to is treat others the way you want to be treated. Has anyone else been through this yet?

"On Monday, Kroger Dallas Division sent the following statement to WFAA:
At Kroger, our Purpose is to Feed the Human Spirit and our Promise is everyone friendly and caring, everything fresh, uplift every way, and improve every day. When isolated situations like this happen, it causes all of us to stop and examine ourselves and our culture.
..."
Imagine being so brainwashed that you mindlessly regurgitate meaningless corporate slogans to a goddamn TV station.

Typical corporate BS. If someone got freaking shot in a Kroger store, Kroger would probably release a very similar statement. Gotta get mileage out of those meaningless slogans that some probably got paid A WHOLE LOTTA MONEY to come up with.
We got the lecture today at our huddle. The letter says that there will be "Sensitivity training" later on in the next quarter. Not sure yet if it's in store or if we have to go to another store for it.
Personally i think that if you don't want to be accused of shoplifting...then don't freaking shoplift, but you know we can't say that anymore.

Also, if you examine the publicity statement very slowly and carefully, it isn't written with correct English grammar!! By merely including the "Kroger talking points" within the sentence, without adding a bit of punctuation or tweaking the sentence slightly, it sounds like someone wrote it who never studied proper grammar. A better "translation" might be:
"At Kroger, our Purpose is to Feed the Human Spirit, our Promise is for our employees to be friendly and caring, and for everything we sell to be fresh; we strive to uplift in every way, and to improve every day for our customers......."

Well, we dont just worry about what we sell to be fresh. For instance, in the Front-End, Fresh means cleanliness, for the most part.

Not to split hairs here, but the word "Fresh" in Kroger Talk does not refer to the word "Clean", it means more like "Not stale" (bakery items), "recently made" (deli items) , "recently delivered to the store and in great physical shape" (produce items) , "Not wilted, old or unattractive" (any perishable items), "in top condition" (produce) "looking like it hasn't been long since the animal was killed" (Meat dept).
Granted, the Front end does need to give an impression of "Fresh", for example, by eliminating unpleasant odors and dirty-looking checkout areas, so maybe you are partly right. But, strictly speaking, "fresh' is not really a synonym for "clean".
Anyone who looks below the surface gloss at Kroger knows CLEANLINESS is not a high priority with Kroger Corp, regardless of their talking points. Extreme cleanliness throughout the store, whether they want to admit it or not, means HIGHER LABOR COSTS!! Oops.......can't have that!!
Nah, I bet it's from some corporate dip**** who spent too much money on a neuro-linguistic programming seminar. The idea is that if you say "fresh fresh fresh" all day long, the customer will start to believe it. Maybe.
As for the "Mesquite incident", ****. I wish my store called the police on shoplifters.
