So yesterday, as I was cleaning a few things around the Uscan, one of the minor cashiers came up to me. She asks me, and I quote, "why are you cleaning that? it's just going to get dirty again anyway."
So that explains why this place is always filthy and trashed. I mean, I know I'm not that much older than them, but jeez, lol.

You should have told her "I'm afraid to see what the inside of your house looks like!!"

Actually, when the cashiers aren't busy with customers, they are supposed to be making sure the front end is cleaned up. It's part of the job description.
I just think a customer would appreciate a clean Uscan and register belt to put their groceries on (specially their produce) without some nasty gunk on it. A clean floor without plastic bags and other trash all over the place, and baskets and carts that other customers leave in random places.
Besides, I do Uscan. I have a lot of freedom to walk around, so when a customer doesn't need my immediate attention, I clean and put back baskets. Sometimes I put back carts and pick up trash in the lobby and straighten up stuff like the stand with the weekly kroger ads. Makes the time go by fast.
She's not wrong. It doesn't take more than 20 minutes for the machines to get covered in milk or chicken juice during the daytime. 10 minutes during primetime.
You're more likely to get grief from customers when you try to clean than from dirty machines.
The customers don't notice and don't care, and neither does management. In fact, all that happens is that I get bitched at to pull customers out of line... to stand in another line .

Because its part of our job. In between customers we keep the registers clean. Nobody cares if it gets dirty 10-20-30x a day. If its dirty, and slow enough to clean, you clean it.

Your right. Keep doing what you're doing. That coworker is useless

Ask her if she bathes. When she says yes ( I hope she says yes), ask her why since she's just going to get dirty again.

Or, "why live, you're just going to die at some point."

Maybe she should stop wiping her butt since she's just going to get $hit on it again.
I have worked with younger workers for 30 years. I do not think that all youth are lazy however the number of younger people that appear to not have a good "Work Ethic" does seem to have increased over the past 10 years. A perfect example is the department I am in. There are two twenty somethings working in my department that make $6/hr more than me and two older workers. The two older workers clock in every day and do as much work in less than half their shift than both the younger workers perform in their entire shift combined. Management knows but decides to overlook it because they are so overwhelmed dealing with general store operations with the massive hour cuts.
I'm 28 years old and get annoyed at some of the younger people myself. Right now my department has two younger employees, one has been there about 6 months, the other only about 2 months. The one who's worked here longer started off strong, but has definitely slacked off lately. The newer one learned everything really quickly and is definitely my department's stronger closer right now.

The older and younger ones in my department are equally bad. I know people like to blame laziness on youth but truth is, it's not about age.
