We're supposed to do PIT inspections morning and night (it's real high on the priority list) but I know that if we turn in one of our jacks because of a couple minor problems, they'll have us lock them out and we won't be able to use them for who knows how long. So are you better off to answer the questions on the PIT inspection honestly or lie so that you won't lose use of the equipment?
And before anyone says it "when someone gets hurt, they'll look to the last person who inspected it"
my reply will be "well it was working fine when I checked it; the problem must have JUST started"
The PIT inspection doesn't report the issue to anyone for a repair. It is just checked to make sure that the machines are being checked. It is an osha/insurance requirement.
If an issue is known and needs to be repaired asap, tell a store manager so they can put it on the hub.
Ours get fixed within a few days. But, we have two pallet jacks and two straddle stackers. Most stores don't.
If the problem is very dangerous, then the machine should be locked out until repaired.
I can't explain how to decide whether or not to use a machine. Just don't put yourself at unnecessary risk.
If there is a note on the machine, then it is used at the operators' own risk.
Most people use them until the don't move anymore.
