Hi there. Just hired in at Kroger and have a few questions regarding union 876. Had an orientation meeting yesterday and it appears to me that I would still get the same rate of pay, vacation days, health benefits, hours, etc. with or without the union. I am also concerned about where my money would go politically. Any advice and education offered regarding this would be appreciated. I've never been a part of a union but from what I know, the membership is getting smaller and smaller. Why would this be?

Please keep real life information off the forum. I know you're frustrated but it's for your safety.

I was in the union for six years. You get the same benefits, working-wise, if you're in or out of the union. The only difference with it is that if you're paying dues you get priority access to union reps, can vote on new contracts, and any claims you file are "processed faster".

In my opinion if you plan to stay more than a year then you'll probably want to join the union; otherwise no.

Thanks for the input. I was able to find other posts regarding the union topic but they were mostly from 2013 and even later. I'm not sure how long I'll stay. I guess it depends on how much I like it or not. I'm retired so I'm really just wanting to stay busy and make a little extra spending money.
