Customer on the phone: Do you have just a plain white cake?

Me: You want just a plain white cake with no decorations?

Customer: Yes.

Me:  What size did you need?

Customer: One that feeds about 16 people.

Me: Yes, we do have a 1/4 sheet plain white cake that feeds that many people.

Customer:  Could you put some blue and purple flowers on it?

Me:  Ma'am, if you want a cake decorated a certain way, we need 24 hours notice.  If you want, you can pick one out of the case and we'll write on it for you.

Customer: CLICK.

I would have said "Sure, When are you picking it up? Then grabbed one of the cakes out of the display that has blue flowers on it, and added some purple ones. That's what the customer would have gotten.

But what if there weren't any cakes with either blue or purple flowers on them?  The lady thought she could get us to decorate a cake right then and there.  Others have tries it.  They ask you to write on it, which is fine.  We do that all the time.  But then they ask if you can take something off and put something else on.  I just tell them it'll tear up the cake if I try to remove something.  The real truth is they forgot to order the cake and now they think we can just stop what we're doing, even if it means if we're working on other customers' orders, and make a cake for them.

Last night, i had this lady come up to the counter at like 6pm, and ask if we have a 1/2 sheet cake in the freezer. I tell her, no, you have to special order that size.

Customer: Well how long does it take to make one?
Me: Well we need about a 24 hour notice, but when do you need it?
Customer: Well that won't work, I need it sooner than that.
Me: Ok when do you need it?
Customer: I need it early.
Me: Ok, when do you need it?
Customer: *in a huff* I'LL JUST LOOK IN THE CASE.
Then she disappears and never returned...

I'm like wtf? I asked her like three times what time she needed it... i would have taken the order if she would have just given me a damn time so i could have made sure my cake decorator would be in at least....

Yeah, i mean, when your cake decorator isn't back in until 8am, i'm not going to take an order for 6am.

How about the lady that comes in very early in the morning (before any floral associate arrives, which is usually about 8:00-9:00) and declares "I need 40 balloons done and can you get them done in like 10 minutes...I'm in a hurry!" First of all, there's nobody in that early (7 AM) or not enough people to do 40 balloons that quickly, esp. when every other department is understaffed...She didn't leave a note ahead of time or even call...Our girl could've had them ready a day earlier, if she would have done that...But, no! And then, they expect miracles!

And speaking of the cakes, I can't tell you how many times someone has ordered a cake and then never picks it up or gets it and decides it's all wrong somehow or something was misspelled...If people would just be clearer about what they wanted, there wouldn't BE these problems...At least, those cakes sometimes end up in our break room, where they don't last long...aww

But seriously, people just need to stop playing games...

Thats obe good thing about "failed pickups or orders" rather waste the cake, we get the spoils. Nothing wrong with free cake.
