Subtle ways to annoy customers that they won't know about!

Put a couple of plastic bags in the bottom of a reuseable bag

If you are doing a floor sweep and you get to the middle of the aisle and see a customer staring you down, turn around! (Turn around, don't drown!)

Look to the right if you see a customer coming toward you if on a floor sweep

"Please bag my groceries light" B*** we have a 5 item minimum in bags I think to myself!

And if I know a customer will be trouble (I have about 5 people I absolutely REFUSE to bag for) I just walk away

I'll look at it from the other side.

All a customer has to do is to BE CIVIL. And for us is to give an eye contact and a nod or a smile.

We all have bad days or could be in a hurry. To both sides: don't take it out on the other side.

Be polite, ask for help, don't demand it. You are not entitled to anything, and we don't owe you anything. You come to our place of business, so behave. We are there to help you, and trust me, for a nice customer, we will do anything to help. Code word being NICE.

Sometimes when a customer is throwing a hissy fit and saying "I'll never shop here again!" at the end of their transaction with me I'll offhandedly say "see you next time!"

I fart silently and walk past them. The fart will follow me leaving a trail so the get a whiff and walk the opposite way to where I let the fart out thats where it really smells bad

I had that conversation a lot at Starbucks with the zombies. The Starbucks customers are generally something special. They are incredibly picky and often try to get free stuff. Since I was a fuel station attendant for two years prior to this, I saw through their little games and they did not like it one bit. Most Starbucks baristas are teenagers that are not seasoned with difficult customers but I am. They eventually took my psychological energy away and I desperately signed any position just to leave Starbucks and I am now a happy baker boy (I had numerous people tell me that going to bakery was a mistake but boy were they wrong). Now, the Starbucks is seldom open as I was one of the few reliable people (who could work full-time, any time and overtime) plus I kept that place clean and remembered regulars' drinks. However, I left with still no real understanding or want to understand "the Starbucks way." Most of their thinking goes against common sense plus Kroger standards. I hated how wasteful they were with products in particular. They do not even go through a "mark down" cycle that other products get before being scanned and tossed out.

If running self check I make them wait a minute or two before I clear the error message.

If customers are irate for the day I let the bags run low and even negligently forget to fill them. If they ask I literally grab just one.

Rude customers that don't even acknowledge the cashier I fill the bags as full as they'll go and occasionally leave an item behind by cleverly tucking it under the paper bags by shuffling the items around so they don't notice it. Make it little things.  Just one or two and they often won't notice it.

I've stopped cleaning the check stand because it turns to filth in an hour and worse than before you cleaned it in two. I only clean it for big spills if that.

The bulk of customers don't even want coupons so I never hand them out unless asked.  I toss them out after the order.
