What is Kroger's policy on selling alcohol to (obviously!) intoxicated customers?

I was told we are not law enforcement and that we had to sell the beer or wine. But another co-manager said for us to notify a manager and they would handle it. Does Kroger have some sort of policy for these situations? What is the guidelines/policy in your store? This I am asking in the suburban Atlanta GA area.

It depends on state law.  That being said, it's generally unlawful and may even expose you or the store to liability should they crash.

At my store, we deny the purchase and call for management if necessary.

At my store, we DO NOT sell alchohol to intoxicated customers at ANY TIME. EVER. If they were to crash or accidently kill someone or themselves, or cause damage, the store would be liable for EVERYTHING. and the person who sold it terminated. If the intoxicated person gets mad, they can deal with it and leave. If they get violent, call for management or security and have them escorted off the property

What if they go through the self checkout? (I don't work on the front end.)

There should be a sco person manning that area to stop them if need be.

I am the original poster. We from time to time get "alcohol stings" in this area (underage kids-usually high school) working for the local PD trying to buy beer or wine.

Remove the retail setting from the equation. Why do bars cut people off? Do bars allow people under the age of 21 to purchase alcohol? In reality, the store only has to provide the associate with the knowledge/training and resources on the sell of alcohol. If an associates sells and or does not follow state laws, the associate will be liable and the store secondary.

We had one the other day, come in and try to buy alchohol. They were underage and had and no ID. We declined them and they proceeded to have a "fit." We escorted them out of the store and a few minutes later they came in(with an officer) wanting to speak to management. They said we had passed the 'sting and that we had done everything in accordance to policy.
