Are asm's allowed to change the schedule that a dept head has written? Not tweak it but change it entirely just because they prefer things another way.

Are you talking about the eschedule or the daily schedule for who does register, uscan and when breaks are?

I imagine they do the daily schedule for the best fit and go by seniority.

I give my back up a list of where I would place people for the day and tell them to change it as needed.  But, that is for grocery.

Ask your department head if it is ok to change the schedule.  There might be a good reason people are where they are.  One might be the best at uscan on a busy day.  Two might cat fight if they work too close together.   Another two might gossip all shift if they are too close together.

I meant assistant store manager (asm).  In this case it's the ops manager changing the schedule for the night crew as written by the grocery manager.

They are the store manager/co manager.  They can change schedules any way they want as long as it isn't changed after the posting time without mutual consent of employee affected.

They are responsible if it doesn't work out.

It would be better for the Department head to explain to them why it isn't a good schedule.  Either they change it back or they don't.

The department head will just have to do their best and let the ops manager clean up the mess.

If a certain employee has had the same days off forever, they can try to grieve it with the union to keep them.  Other than that, the schedule has to follow seniority.

Yes they can. And there isnt one thing a dept head can do about it. As long as it's done within the timeframe and not after they can.
