Here in Local 1996 to avoid a $15 week surcharge you have to get a biometric screening. I have privacy concerns regarding this because I think such info could be used against you at some point-even though the Union says the info will not be released to Kroger. Thoughts anyone?
If you don't have the insurance how can they charge you? That seems illegal. You should only be charged dues. If you're not using the insurance why are you even in the union? =\

There is a weekly $ 15 surcchage if you have the insurance and don't get a biometric screening. I emailed the union and asked what safeguards there were to keep this info private.
The screening is a simple way the Union/Organizations try to make you understand some basic information on your health. If you do not do the yearly biometric screening, then your basically charged more per week. If you do not participate in the insurance, then you will not be charged, and will only pay the normal union dues.
what division/zone are you in that you have to be screened? I've never heard of this. Seems like a scam for money: "if you don't like it, there's the door"
I am in the Local 1996 (Atlanta GA area)-when they negotiated the last contract several years ago they told us this was coming. I don't care what they say-if you get into a dispute with Kroger they could subpoena the biometric info-and my health is none of Kroger's business and that is why I didn't take their insurance

They can not use your personal health records against you, because they can't even access them. My suggestion is don't go through the Kroger pharmacy/ little clinic to have your screening done. Use your own personal physician. That way Kroger has no access to the full results. I have to have mine done this Tuesday. P.S. If you don't get insurance through Kroger, then why are you worried? You don't have to have bio-metric screening done if you don't have their insurance. Also it's Free, filed under preventative care.
