I get my payroll check in the mail and went to the store about a mile from where I live. The kid at customer service gave me a hard time saying it "was a new Kroger policy and we just got a memo about it" saying they could not cash payroll checks from people who actually did not work in that store. I have never heard of this before and my store from time to time cashes checks from people who work at the store about 5 miles from us. Has anyone heard of this happening elsewhere?
I work at the service desk and I'll ask to see their drivers licence or state id if I don't recognize them from the store they work at. I have heard nothing of a new policy concerning this. I am in the King Soopers division of Kroger.

I am the original poster-the kid claimed that store had "fraud" when it came to payroll checks from people who did not actually work there. Possibly only that store had problems?
I've never had a problem going to another store to cash a check...How would they know you didn't work there or maybe just quit? All you can do is go there and ask if they'll cash it...They can either say yes or no!
I was cashing my checks at another store a few years ago and they called their assistant manager, who I knew personally, to confirm that I actually did work for Kroger. On days that she wasn't there they just called up the store I did work at and asked them to confirm that I was an employee. They were both fairly small stores so it wasn't hard to get a manager that was able to confirm it. (~50 employees each)

Yes, they have to confirm you work for Kroger. There's been a recent issue with scammers faking employee paychecks and cashing them
