You know it's going to be a bad day when you walk in the door and those are the first words out of a manager's mouth.
my reply generally goes like this:
I don't plan to work here much longer
It doesn't affect me one way or the other if the walk goes good/bad
Tell whoever is coming they can **** off, they ain't **** to me, 'cept some corporate worm with no balls to go back to headquarters and tell it how it really is on the store level
No overtime, no extra hours, keep schedules under budget.... *yawn* (store slumps into Just Enough to pass a grocery store, untidy, plenty of holes on shelves and tables)
Someone gets word a "high up" boss is coming the next day to see why sales are slumping.
"COMPANY VISIT!!!! ALL HANDS ON DECK, CALL EVERYONE! OVERTIME OVERTIME OVERTIME !!! EVERYONE WORK 2 SHIFTS, NOW NOW NOW!!!!!! NOT A DRILL, GO GO GO!!"
"high up" boss walks through store, sees everything is clean full and fresh, wonders what the hell is going on... and leaves with little to say except the usual one or two things they might do differently.
-___- Who is this helping? Why can't we just be real and honest with them, break it down for them when they come in? They want us to just bounce out and follow them through our department all smiles like we have nothing to do, praise all their ineffective programs, and then proceed to jam our tongues deep up their asses. This helps nobody, it stresses out everybody, its such a JOKE !
My favorite experience with this is one time managers got word that we were going to get a "thank you walk through." No one knew what that meant, apparently there were no details or maybe no one properly read the memo. Anyway they did their usual freak out CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN NOW NOW NOW thing when they get company. Turns out the walk through was just two random workers handing us candy to thank us for our hard work. They didn't check anything, they didn't look at the departments, they just walked around to hand employees candy, left some candy in the break room, and then left. Instead of being something positive for us it made more work for us. Gotta love Kroger.

This. They have to know that the stores will pump in extra hours to tidy up for the visits. It's like they don't want to know how **** really is. Corporate worms are so clueless, I have zero respect for anyone who comes in to do an inspection/audit/walk. I tell the corporate people how it really is, but those worms are too scared so they sugar coat everything. pussies

And THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is why the world continues it's downward spiral...At the end of their lives, will they regret not making that one last store walk??? Corporate people everywhere have forgotten what it's like to just be the low man on the totem pole...I question why they give their companies such undying loyalty without questioning any of their procedures, but that would be too risky...Guess what??? As Dante himself once said (and others have quoted through the years), "The hottest places in Hell are reserved for those who in time of moral crisis preserve their neutrality."

Sick people in this world!
I quit this **** hole around the same time as a store manager. The store manager was bitter and angry, he told me alot of stuff I probably shouldn't of known.
I asked him why no one ever spoke up. He told me how one time a store manager questioned a decision that was being made during a meeting, after the meeting he was pulled to the side and told "Kroger no longer needs your services". That stuck with me to this day. If they put that kind of value on store managers and fire them for asking a question. Imagine how they see the everyday worker.
Incompetent people.... a store is only as good as its workers. If a store is in a panic over an important visit, or there is a bunch of stress and attitudes swirling about, then that just shows the incompetence of the workers. If your lazy asses actually did your job and tried to encourage one another, the walls will go smoothly. I bet the lot of you are more concerned about how much sick time can you request off. And "muh vacations and availability" other than actually getting the job done and done thoroughly for the day.

Well I've been at kroger for 18 months so I deserve every saturday off. They get mad and only give me 8 hours per week even though I can out stock any of them.

I have been with Kroger since May 2016, and I do not get every Saturday off.

I have more seniority than you.
I've been with Kroger since 1989. I never get a Saturday off unless I happen to be on vacation.
Have you ever asked for Saturdays off? I've been there since 2006 and I get every Saturday and Sunday off, but I also have another job I work at on Sat and Sun.

I'll work whatever hours they give me, as long as I know what the schedule is and they tell me if they need to make a change before they make the changes...I don't mind if I have to work a Saturday or a Sunday, either...That's fine (I've worked MANY of them!), but when they don't schedule the right people or enough people or they royally screw up the schedule by changing hours, cutting hours or eliminating hours altogether, it doesn't get the job done the way it NEEDS to...THAT is what they don't get!!! You need to GIVE to GET! Sure, the managers might complain, but THEY'RE the ones who are messing with the schedule and not ensuring enough coverage! THEY have NO RIGHT to complain when it's THEIR schedule-flipping that got us into this mess! And we've got some of the best workers around...Incompetence nothing!!!!

Yeah they're ridiculous. I've been getting my hours cut (I don't mind too much because I have another job to fall back on, so I can deal with it.) Anyway the assistant head of our department wrote the schedule and she scheduled me from 6 am to 10 am. Someone called off and she was shocked and angry when she asked me to stay extra and I had the audacity to say no. "Why can't you be a team player and stay over? We really need you!" Well you didn't need me when you were greedily cutting hours, did you? I went home at 10 and enjoyed the rest of my day.

Or a real life example. I got a young child(6), I was the only one in my department with a kid below 20. I had to work. Holloween, no request, no reason. Just word of mouth people saying they won't work it. Before I quit, I never once took my 6 yr old child trick or treating. Even with requests off asking for it like a month or two advanced and almost a year verbal (with reminders) requests.
I got my first Holloween when my son was 8.
I had 10 yrs seniority.
Maybe a real life example over a made up one that's suppose to help. Prove your point.

Me again, the first holloween I spent with my kid was after I quit Kroger. I don't want anyone thinking Kroger did something more than it was legally required to do.
you mean you worked there for 10 years or that you had 10 years over the next person in line? Either way, Halloween isn't a major holiday that should have many people asking off for (like say New Years, Thanksgiving, etc), so there's no reason why you shouldn't have gotten it off if you asked, especially given your seniority. I'd ask why your request wasn't honored while others' were. Perhaps you do a job that only a handful of people can do (pricing, payroll, dsd), but it really sounds like you work evenings, thus missing trick or treating. Hopefully you got a better job!
