In all honesty, it's a little weird once you start to think about it.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's to get Access/Lifeline (Obamaphone) customers into the store so Kroger can get those sweet sweet EBT/WIC dollars.

People also need burner phones, and particularly stupid customers are impressed with the point system.

Isn't this basically the exact same thing as i-wireless, just rebranded? Kroger has offered this for years now.

Yeah, it's a rebranding of their i-wireless MVNO (which also provides service with Lifeline under the name Access Wireless). My store had actually stopped stocking i-wireless devices and I've seen no effort to promote it until this rebrand so I'd thought they were trying to wind down the service and maybe sell it off to someone else.

I just can't wrap my head around the "Kroger" brand selling wireless service. They should have used a different name.

Kroger's MVNO operates on Sprint's network. also lmao apparently the company is doing paid editing of the service's wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=I-wireless&action=history
