Say there's the Uscan attendant, who was assigned to be on the Uscan. Then either it's busy or there's not enough cashiers or whatever, the floor supervisor takes over the Uscan and the attendant goes to a register, for however long it's busy or whatever.
Yeah, I notice this happening a lot lately, since our store's front end hours have been cut. Sometimes the managers, who have taken over the Uscan, make a courtesy clerk take over the Uscan for a few minutes while they go off and do other urgent managerial things while the Uscan attendant is on a register.
In my division, a CC cannot run register. My store just has the uscan attendant pull customers down that are in line at regular registers and scan them out on there (kinda killing the point of SELF checkout)
Back when I worked on the front end at one of my previous stores, one of our co-managers would take over self scan and run it while sending the self scan associate to a register. It was only this one particular co-manager that would do this; pretty sure it was because he didn't want to actually get on a register & check. All other co-managers would just open up on a register themselves.
