Kroger has wanted to be Walmart for years. Kroger doesn't do anything until Walmart does it first. Even if it's something Walmart has tried and failed at, like key retailing for example. Which Kroger keeps bringing back, under different names, like order evolution, center store excellence and standards walks.
Kroger isn't trying to be like Walmart, but currently doesn't know what it whats to be.... Remember People, Product, Price, Experience....? Now apparently only, Product and Price matters.... 1+1 has kinda been going out the window little by little....side help? Front End Transformation stores? 1+2?.... There was a reason why the Q-vision reports no longer show 1+1 as he standard....

Oh know! Walmart has taken most of their registers out and it's all self checkout. Personally this does not bother me. But the town I work in people do not like self checkout. If the self checkout attendant calls them down they stand there in the same line looking like zombies.

Kroger needs to STOP with the "feel good" customer service inititives, such as Customer 1st, Feed the Human Spirit, etc. and focus more on their EMPLOYEES. The bs that is on our checks every week ("A Highly Satisfied Cutomer Made This Paycheck Possible")-I mean come on-does ANYONE really believe this crap?!?
Have fun, my bud from Walmart says she's a right ****. Gets pissy if you don't pronounce her name correctly, throws stores under to G.O., and overall very picky. Good luck.
