The step stool part was interesting. I knew a guy that loaded trailers for a walmart warehouse 30 years ago. They hand stacked everything in the
semi from bottom to top. When it got to the store, it was unloaded the same way. They had very demanding times or you were thrown to the curb.
As for the step stool. When I started, we used the black Rubbermaid stools. It fit perfectly in the shopping cart and I could drag it across the floor with my foot as long as the wheels didn't break off. When the first step cracks, it has to be thrown out so no one breaks an ankle. About 6 years ago, I asked them to order more. And, they ordered 5 more. A week later, a co manager told me that they were not to be used per key retailing. They were dangerous. They got us the new green ladder/stool. He threw 4 of the 5 new ones away... I kept one hidden until it cracked. I still see them when I work at other stores and am always tempted to swipe one... We are only supposed to use the green steel ladder/stool. This was the same time night stock was to be aisle friendly pallets. (side note: A year later, they started making the aisles narrower so the pallets don't fit well. I have been to some stores where there are support poles in the middle of the aisles) I have nearly tripped on the green stools twice almost busting my head on a shelf extender because they are too bulky. Another time, I almost stepped off the side instead of down the step. I hate those green ladder/stools. I watch people wedge them to the front of the shopping cart to move them around. They are the bulkiest and biggest time waster for fast paced night stocking.
