Our security?? HAHAHHAHAH! Well...we do have one that comes in around 3pm-12am. Hes a hands off security but for an older guy he can run. He is allowed to grab the items back but the second a shoplifter struggles, hes supposed to let go and report the theft....we can't have the shoplifter getting a deserved injury now...
The store on my side of town, which I and other locals had shopped for many years (it wad been there since 1958) just closed last summer due to out of control theft. The plaza owners had tried negotiating with Kroger Corp., said they'd waive rental fees indefinitely til the store got back on its feet, but Kroger declined. That store was already almost TWO YEARS without a profit.. Now it's gone, and the plaza itself is on the verge of extinction (nothing but ghetto fab shops there).
Now. As for secirity guards: That store's managers went years without hiring any one to even try to stem the tide of losses. By the time they woke up, they were hiring temp job minimum wage slackers who, like the other guy described, did nothing but sit and scroll. Thieves were strolling out right past them with steaks, high end booze and lobester tails.
