They can probably try to write you up. If they do then refuse to sign it and claim you were too busy or didn't notice the customer. It should be easy for the union to fight a suspension based on that.

If management catches you not saying hello to a customer, can they really suspend you?
Yes they can. If you cant VALUE US then you have no purpose being at kroger. Stop being a sour puss piss poor ASS ociate and brush your teeth and your ass. Youre there to tend to all OUR needs! Earn your tiny weekly check for once in your life. VALUE US!Q!!Q!
As much as I hate to agree with Value Us guy, they can. Especially if you have been warned numerous times over and over. But they're not going to nail you for a few misses. You have to be written up numerous times before they go that far. And most customers arent going to really care if you say hi or not.

Well, they want big permanent smiles and for us to harass every customer that walks by and not only say hello but start conversations with them. And I do mean EVERY SINGLE customer that walks by. Let me repeat in bold, EVERY... SINGLE... CUSTOMER... Thing is, 98% of customers do not want to interact with employees, but management wants to force this.
This is utterly ridiculous. They've been watching and threatening cashiers left and right with suspension about this.

Good you deserve to be suspended without pay. If youre that anti social then you need to go clean the bathrooms or pick trash up off the lot. Smile MORE!! Every customer is putting in on your tiny check. Grovel at there feet. And your 98% theory is false... g have to call Corp and start a petition to send dead best associates home. VALUE US!!!
Actually, not every customer is putting in towards our admittedly small paychecks. My store has a relatively large proportion of shoplifters and scammers, and we don't make one red cent on commission. If anything, the "Sharing Success" program has been discontinued (seemingly in favor of showering Rodney with millions of dollars).
I would rather pick up trash or clean the restroom, honestly.
If I brushed my ass, is that more clean or less clean than Charmin shiny? It's probably more cost effective, but is it truly worth it? Also, you seem a bit too homophobic to be truly concerned about our anal cleanliness. Your trolling continues to lack internal consistency.

Means most of you associates never wash your ass so you smell .. like ass. My guessing
I am so glad that I retired at the end of January of 2019. I went out with 32 years and it was getting bad enough just before I retired and I figured it was going to get worse. I was on the frontend and I had got to the point I did not want to work on the frontend anymore. Customers do not care if you do not talk to them. i know myself I just want to go into the store, get my groceries pay for them and leave. I do not want people harassing me with small talk. Kroger was so much better when I started out with them. Corporate back then did not force us to do stupid things. It all started going down hill in 2004 when the good corporate people started retiring and new people was coming in who has never worked in the stores. I have always said that the corporate people needs to work a few weeks in the stores and get a taste of what we go through with and maybe then they would stop pushing these stupid ideas. I never thought I would be happy to turn 65 but that got me to retirement and out of Kroger where I have my sanity back. I love not going into work and now I can do anything I want. I just feel for people who cannot get out yet.

I would welcome that actually, I'd file a grievance and get my days pay anyways, OT no doubt too. I could use a day off.

To bad youd lose. read your job description. Cant Do whats required? Then get let go. plenty of days off no pay
The union around here is deeply and profoundly uninterested. Calling a few times a day every day, it takes a week to even get them to pick up the phone.
I've always wanted to fire up my Weingarten Rights just so I can see how dysfunctional they truly are.
