Man I hate the new updates to the Uscan SCO software
Permalink

The pointless sound effects aside, this update makes the software kind of unstable. It makes the screen go into "Closed" state at random times like when a customer is in the middle of their order. The software loses its connection with the scanner scale for no reason, so the customer cannot weigh their produce until the machine is rebooted.

This glitch happens ALL THE TIME now, it's annoying. Forces me to transfer a customers order to my station and finish scanning their stuff manually while the machine is rebooting. And I love it when it happens to more than two machines at a time. Like today, four machines did it at once. Fun stuff.

Oh and the "NOT AUTHORIZED" lockout when you scan your barcode/type in your ACE password, doesn't go away on its own like it used to after a couple minutes. No, you gotta reboot it. Fun, fun stuff.

But still, man I love the Uscan. Beats riding a register anytime of the week.

LOL, it really doesn't have a purpose.

But, no matter. My mind has already blocked it out.

The only reason I can think of is some idiot from corporate thinks if the customer hears a happy tune, they might think they had a more pleasant shopping experience.

Well, I also think when the In Store Audio Network guy says, "Go ahead and sing along.  We don't mind." it's for the same reason.

Joining your discussion, I would like to say that I really need to have the best site where I might find software development for myself. If anybody knows information like this, share with me please

I noticed that too.

They disabled the weight sensor to detect if items were in the bag or not. Yet when customers wobble the bag or place it down to hard and it falls over it recognizes that. Customers fake scan a lot and get away with it.

I've noticed that the machines randomly close them selves for no reason even if in the middle of a transaction.

Fewer security clears for weight messages. The old security system forced us to come over if the scale recognized too much extra weight or wobbles to much.

Customers keep scanning after liquor or age restricted message displays. Then gets pissy when we have to do an extra clear at the end.

Customers blindly keep scanning even if a security clear message pops up and the attendant has to tell them to rescan half their order.

If a customer fails to press I placed my bag in the bagging area after 30 seconds the machine quotes "Remove all items before beginning order." Yet like the dumb @$$es they are; people scan thinking it got it all. We come over and tell them it got nothing.

Please reinstate the weight for the bag. If it's heavier than 1lbs please reactivate "Remove all items from bagging area before starting order." Too many people do the damn thing backwards then the machine makes us weight  check it all.

Did the turn off the weight verification like they did when COVID started to "Speed up the checkout process", or did they turn off the weight security with the new AI cameras watching the items scanned?

What is with the "cheery ding" at the end? It does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to cheer a customer up if they have a poor experience.
