Where I work at I do many jobs. I use to be Deli, then got transferred to produce and floral. For 2 months I had to go back to Deli because they were short people, working 50 hours a week. I was not only working in Deli, I was working floral, helping other departments, and working bakery. Now Deli has the people they need so I'm back in produce, cutting fruit. I have to get my rhythm back, but it's hard when they are expecting me to just be able to do it. I'm exhausted. Im needing a break. I keep getting told, that this is a way for me to move up, but it just ain't happening. It feels like I'm demoting myself, every single time I have to readjust. There has yet to be one promotion with all the hard work I've been doing. I almost feel like giving up. Tho company is draining me.
That's retail for you. You work as a servant and in the end, they only expect more.
Doing more work is a common misconception to being promoted and most managers there don't have the skills needed to do their duties in the first place. The key to getting promoted will always be connections or more specifically, ass-kissing. You have a better chance at being struck by lightning than being promoted simply because of you worth ethic. It's sad but, unfortunate.
Why on Earth would they promote you if you are willing to work yourself to death?
If they promoted you, they'd have to find some other sucker willing to work at least as hard first to take your place.
At Kroger wages, that's a hard sale.
You've likely made the classic mistake of making yourself too difficult to replace.
There's no shame in seeking employment outside of Kroger. Kroger is at least the fourth worst paying corporation in America, so I'd like to think you can do better. Believe in yourself. Or don't. I want another drink but probably shouldn't pour one.
