So last weekend the compactor broke. I came in last Sunday morning shopping carts parked all by the compactor. It took a few days to bring open top. I don't know why but it did. The compactor breaks every month. I have seen the store manager chuck pallets the small display pallets not the blue ones. But some pallets are almost as big. I was always told to but all pallets on the salvage trailer. Well we got the trash in the over top long story short. One bag fell on the ground has chicken and was very greasy and filled with maggots. Yes there is maggots all behind the store and flies until they get this all worked out. Well I told them yesterday I needed a shovel. I had to go home early a few days ago all that nasty got on me and I was smelling really bad. I told them yesterday I needed a shovel. They refused to go get one. I said I don't know how you expect me to get it. The bag was very heavy I got pictures. The compactor never broke until this manager came and started putting pallets in the compactor.

Sounds like excuses to me. Just do your job and pick it up whats so hard about that? I swear complain complain complain... just useless
They NEED to just fix the compactor. NOBODY should have to clean up maggots and rotting chicken flesh. That's about 10x ABOVE my pay grade. Being as I am NOT responsible to clean up rotting meat...I know its gross I ALWAYS manage to "not see" it. Eventually someone who is supposed to clean it, gets it clean. By then, usually, all that needs to be done is go sweep it into a dustpan and throw it away. Disgusting but true.
The pallets won't break the compactor per se. They will jam the mechanism if not thrown in the right way. The trash has to be completely compacted few times and then when the bottom of the chute is empty, throw a small pallet in. The pallets are supposed to go back with salvage and not put in the compactor.
I swear no one knows how to tie a bag. Every time I have to pick up a plastics bag, it is open. Sometimes the recycle plastic and sometimes the garbage from the front end.
The Deli garbage is better thrown out directly from the garbage can. The refuse is too heavy for the plastic bags and they will tear. Put some spill magic on it and see if it kills the odor. Stand upwind of the odor. Put some gloves on. Take a banana box or two and line it with a plastic bag. Use two sturdy pieces of cardboard to pick up scraps like a shovel. Or use a hand held dustpan and piece of cardboard or wood to "sweep" up crap. Take your time so you don't fling a maggot on yourself. Either rinse dustpan off or toss it. Good luck.

But there will be no next time. Next time compactor breaks I will order the open top myself and have it there same day.

All taken care of. But there will be no next time. Next time compactor breaks I will order the open top myself and have it there same day.
lol. Unfortunately, someone has to do it. Best way is to do it and get it over with.
Now, you can put "Dispose of bodies" on your resume as experience.
And you know something funny? Tuesday was when all the carts were dumped in the over top. One of the bags fell out then. I was waiting to talk to a manager to see if we could go to Home Depot and get a shovel. Anyway the receiving rep told me make sure you close and lock that back. I was thinking what if I made it loose and it all came out when they picked it up going down the road OH! the e-mail we could get. Anyway I did the right thing and locked it back now when they pick it up I will finish getting the trash up I could not get because it's sitting up next to the wall. But this morning I made it very very clear to one of the assistant managers. I said and I said it loud if I was in charge all this would have never happened we would have had an over top the same day and there would not have been carts left full of trash. then I stormed out the back room and she was just staring and watching me storm away. I felt better after I stood up for myself and let them know I am not going to let them push me around. I hope to soon be leaving I have a interview this coming up Friday.
