I am a courtesy clerk and usually I work a 8-4 or 10-6 shift Mon-Fri. Usually I am almost ALWAYS given a half hour lunch. Sometimes I dont mind, but other times I don't feel like taking just a half so what I do is I look at the checkstand profile and if we have enough coverage for cc's, hell, I'll take an hour lunch because we have coverage. What really irks me is that when I work an 8-4 like today, they had me going to lunch from 11-11:30. Well, NO WAY am I taking that early of a lunch. So I took a 12-12:30 lunch. Right after lunch I get b*itched at for doing so. EVEN THOUGH we had ENOUGH coverage. They told me that we could have 20 cc's on duty at that time... an early lunch IS an early lunch and that it DOESNT MATTER if I "feel like" taking an early lunch or not you take it when scheduled. But honestly, what does it matter? We had the coverage!
The "big deal" is that you took your lunch at a later time than assigned. And the ",big deal" is that you take longer lunches when you don't "feel like" your 30 min lunch. I'm not sorry, but it does NOT matter if 3 hours after your first start is "too early" or that 30 min is "too short." You could have 50-100 cc assigned that day, you take your lunch when assigned for the time assigned.
When you are up front, you go on break/lunch when they tell you to. Thats just how it is. The other departments have more leeway, generally at the discretion of your department head.
You canNOT make the "executive decision" to go on lunch at xxx time for xxx min EVEN IF there is MORE than enough help. You should always check in with your fe clerk or manager to see if it's ok to do so. There may be a reason as to why you are scheduled at the times you are
It really isnt a big deal OP. Good for you on taking your lunch at a proper time. Its your lunch right? I also take a 25 min break rather than a 15. I dont have to take a lunch I just leave an hour early. Dont listen to these blind sheep.

Then if he gets fired or written up, then that's what happens. Our manager has really cracked down on taking lunches for the exact time and legnth. If you talk to him first or the fe manager first then it's not a big deal because you spoke first before making the decision on your own.
I ALWAYS get 30 min lunches. however when I dont feel like taking a 30 min lunch and want an hour because I'm sick of 30 min lunches, I ask first. While I still wont get an hour lunch, they often say take a 35-40 min lunch in lieu of the hour, which is fine by me.

I dont ask. I dont take lunches so im there for 8 hours not 9. I take 20 or a 25 min break instead of a 15 cause I can. Front end sucks.
