Store keeps getting no handle bags
Permalink

Our st ore keeps getting bags without handles and this is creating a ton of customer complaining. It got so bad we stripped the front end of all handled bags and forced people to take no handle bags. We did this as a passive aggressive measure because we got sick of the moaning, complaining and nastiness. Is this a new thing no handles on Kroger bags?

Are these plastic bags?  If so, then how are you suppose to carry them without your groceries spilling out all over the place?

The paper bags with handles were discontinued over 6 months ago.  Yes, this is a money saving change.

Plastic has been banned in our store. Customers will just have to suck it up. Manager said the warehouse couldn't keep up with production so to keep up with production they have been making bags without handles so that stores can have bags. Otherwise we will go through phases of no bags. It's better to have a bag than nothing.

I'm not surprised. Yea one more thing for customers to bitch and complain about for six months before they adjust.

Every store (non Kroger too) with paper bags have always been no handle type ones around here.

Customers just want something to complain about...

I'm over 50 years old and I have never seen any grocery store paper bags with handles on them.  I've seen shopping bags with handles on them from department stores but not from grocery stores.

The high volume stores(Market place) around here had handles on the paper bags. They were durable and nice.

The no handle bags are less expensive.

Some restaurants give paper bags with handles. I do take out all the time for my family. Just use your friend google they do make them but I have never heard of Kroger having them.

First time I saw a paper bag with handles was about 5 years ago.  They are the same size as the regular paper bags just with handles.

I can hardly believe others have not seen them before.  I was able to dig one out of the pantry.

I guess it is just like bottle rooms.  Many states do not collect deposits for plastic and glass bottles.

Yeah, all you guys who experienced the wonderful decades of the 1960s, 70s, 80s, you might remember that ALL paper grocery store paper bags was just a bag without a handle (like a large paper lunch sack), it was unheard of to have handles. You were expected to be smart enough, nimble and agile enough with your hands and arms to carry them without dropping or spilling the contents!  BUT..... people have gotten so SPOILED with the plastic bags with handles, they expect handles on Everything now!

This would be better with the Kroger logo.

The answer was this: Apparently the warehouse can't keep up with a no paper county and instead of going through phases of where they can't met supply and demand they started manufacturing bags without handles. I tell customers that they should be thankful to have a bag rather than be pissed it doesn't have handles because the warehouse otherwise couldn't keep up with production demands.
