Why are abusive dept heads protected and allowed to discourage good workers?

I was hired to work in Clik list (not the front end!). I took this job because I know my limitations..that I am unable to tolerate being watched and stared at by long cashier lines. From day one the clik list dept head was rude, condescending,  humiliating.  It seems every dept in the store finds her impossible to work with...not just little old me. Anyway, I could not work under such a sour, mean person so I requested a different job.  Of course I got stuck cashiering...the last job I'd have applied for.  WHY ARE ABUSIVE KROGER EMPLOYEES ALLOWED TO KEEP THEIR JOBS AND RUN OFF GOOD PEOPLE?  VERY POOR MANAGEMENT!!  The Kroger motto  "Feed the human spirit" is a joke!!.  More like CRUSH THE HUMAN SPIRIT.  And to bagger Joe who loudly announced in front of customers and co-workers that he wished I would "disappear" .. you got your wish, punk.  I quit the next day.

No idea..i know the name starts with J..a common name like john or joe. And he might have been kidding for all I know and hope.     Cashiering has too much contact and scrutiny from the public.  I'm not a good fit.

You can report it to kroger ethics hot line. I went through the same b.s. when I transferred store and put an end to the belittling derogatory environment. I think I filed enough that my store manager got fired. It was like two a month. Same sh*it you're going through. New manager isn't allowing any of this garbage to occur. Our fes thinks he's all high and mighty and when his authority is "accidentally" overthrown or forgotten he acts like a snob sh*it trying to get it back.

My store looses a lot of people because of this. I've worked for companies where they fire for people for this b.s. Not here. It's bully and dominance. Ridicule and tell people how pathetic and bad they are to "encourage them" bull it mentally belittles them and after a while it gets to you.

Example of her awful behavior: after I'd asked a question about the handheld device, and keep in mind I'd only been in the job a week or two, she rudely SNATCHED the device out of my hand and started scanning the bags herself.  Like I'm incapable of pressing a f*cking button!  A similar humiliating incident occurred where she rudely grabbed something from my hands, in front of a manager even...  More than once she yelled at me in front of co-workers.  They were embarrassed for me. Her reaction to almost every training question was ANGER, and CONDESCENSION. I would have been great in clik list if only I'd had half a chance. I pity all her future victims..new people all excited to have the job only to be crushed by her mean negativity. no one should be subjected to her venom.  I can only assume the store managers fear her too... from what I hear there's a large stack of complaints about her yet she still has a leader position.  Care more about your employees, Kroger.  Not just customers.

Agree.  Also, a longtime front end employee advised me I should have "stood up" to the clik list mgr.  Like we're in the schoolyard defending ourselves against bullies!!  That is the Kroger culture I guess?  I'll never shop there again either.  The front end leaders, however  were AWESOME. I have zero complaints there.  I would have remained if not for my "disability" ..  being watched by countless customers unnerves me to the bone.  A serious past trauma made me this way.

Not to excuse any bad behavior but a lot of Pickup leads and supervisors are greatly stressed with the number of orders coming in, all the pressure on them, etc... especially in some of these big marketplaces doing 14, 16, 20 orders an hour... i'm sorry though you were treated that way though.
