I haven't been scheduled in weeks, but I had a vacation scheduled next week and I got paid for it. I asked the managers, but they're being incredibly vague about it and won't give me real answers. I talked to the union about it and their only solution was to bump people, but I don't think it's a viable solution if I have to bump people week after week just to get any hours. I haven't tried it yet, so I don't even know if they'll let me. The last time I worked was a day in the middle of October that they randomly changed from no hours to 8 hours and I almost got dinged for a no call no show because I didn't notice they had changed the schedule in the store. 

I haven't been fired and as far as I know I didn't do anything. Anyone else have something like this happen to them? I have a second job (I've had it for 2 years) so I'm not too concerned yet, but my other job doesn't give me enough hours to be my sole job.

What department?  Ask the department head that you report to why you are not on the schedule.

Per our contract, the minimum hours they can give part timers is 12 per week.

I have seen them give cashiers 0 hours for a week. And then give them 12 hours the second week.  When it goes to 0 hours for two weeks, you can apply for underemployment.

They should at least give you a lay-off notice if they are not going to put you on the schedule.

I don't have enough hours for everyone on my crew but try to give them at least 16 hours.  The managers can hand out lay off notices if they don't want me to go over budget.

Contact the union they're not scheduling you. This is also a firing tactic by reducing hours and not putting you on the schedule. File a grievance.

 I work in the bakery. I asked again and they said my availability is "too restricted." I've had the same availability since 2014 and it's never been an issue before.  Plus other people have more restricted schedules than I do and are still getting hours, and people with less seniority are getting the hours I can have. 

I asked them why it was an issue now and they were evasive about it.

 What is your availabilty?  We have one woman in the bakery department who only works every other Saturday, if that often, for 4 hours in the morning.  Another one only works 4 hours on either Saturday or Sunday, but not both.  If you have seniority over any other part timers, they have to give you at least as many hours as they get.  You may have to resort to bumping someone.  It's not a matter of if they'll let you.  You don't need their permission.  Is there another Kroger store close by you can transfer to?  From what I've read,  all bakery departments are shorthanded.

While I don't know this persona availability, I have always loved associates that feel they have been slighted when their availability is so limited. If your only able to work 4 hours a week, what is the point? Yes, I can understand if this is only for a few weeks due to another situation, but for a very long period of time?

Is the person retired, and just working extremely part time just to pick up a few extra bucks?
