Keep scheduling me beyond my availability
Permalink

I work as a courtesy clerk and my set availability is anywhere between 8:30am to 7:00pm NO EXCEPTIONS. I have told them numerous times and they told me they understood, yet they STILL manage to slip in 6:00 am start times (which is TOO EARLY for me to start). They ALWAYS do this without fail during the Christmas Holidays. They did it to me this monday despite me telling them it's too early. So I guess theyll find out when I start at 8:30, my AVAILABLE time to start.

I don't know what the deal is...its not hard to keep one on their availability. If it's because of getting liquor or ciggarettes, sorry but NOT sorry, that is NOT a good enough excuse to toggle with my availability. (That's TOO EARLY to be drinking anyways) and if it's to gather carts, that should be done by the closer the previous night before. As well as the cleaning of the front end.

Since you're incapable of proper communication with your department head (as opposed to a random Internet forum), understanding the concept of "needs of the business", as well as waking up early, I'm going to assume you're a teenager. You should ask your parents to call the manager and see how that works out :)

You need to put your foot down and say you absolutely will not work beyond your availability. Talk to the managers and tell them you're going to be late on those days because you've been scheduled outside your availability and you cannot come in at that time. If you don't start defending it now they will walk all over you later.

Availability is thrown out the window during holiday weeks. Suck it up.

OP here. Guess they're going to find out when I go to work at my available time. When they ask why I'm late, I'll just tell them that 6am is beyond my availability. Don't know how many times I'll have to do this...we will see soon enough.  Holiday or not, that is NOT a good enough excuse to change my availability.

We have a problem in our store with high school students being scheduled for more hours than the law here in Georgia allows. One person had to get a letter from his school counselor before our store caved in. Minors here are very restricted in the number of hours they can work when school is in session and I think up to age 16 they have to have a work permit. Anyone under 18 is NOT allowed on the lot to collect carts.
