Hiring new people and not wanting to give them hours
Permalink

The person in charge of hiring hired multiple new people for my department without talking to anyone. The head of our department tried to work around it by giving them training hours because they do need to be trained, but the store manager chewed him out. He ended up sending the new guy home.

So are they just hiring new people and not giving them hours? What's the point of that?

LOL This is nothing new. Kroger has always done this and if the new hire saids too much they could get fired because of the probation.

Ours requires either a minimum of 12, or none.

WRONG,  I work in the Atlanta division and the minimum is 12 hours or they get zero hours.  As for the hiring people and not giving them hours, I wish we had that problem at my store.  Our deli department is short 100 hours of help each week, meat department 20 hours, until recently I lost 25 hours a week for 8 months before FINALLY getting some help.

File an ethics report. This is disciplinary actions. Sending someone home without cause. Contact your union. File a grievance. You have 60 days and I suggest to do it sooner than later.

If they start hiring new people and senior people start finding their hours cut you can file a grievance according to union contract seniority has hours.

Just take some hours from the new hires. If they don't like it, tough. Too bad. If they don't like it, find another place to work or pick up stray hours that nobody wants.

Old story told who knows how many times. The stores hire people but often lack the hours to distribute them fairly to employees. This is why my store can't hold onto staff. Most quit because the paycheck is not livable. Despite what they tell you, you can pick up extra hours at fellow neighboring stores. My store manager lied ot me about that. You can work up to 40 hrs. If you work Sun you have 7 days to play with if you don't work Sun then if you go over 40 it will be over time.
