Couple of times I have had women start labor in my line ("I am 5 centimeters dialated!") and sometimes elderly customers request a chair to sit down in.  Have you ever had a customer have a serious medical emergency in your store and what happened?

OD's, endless slip and falls, heart attacks, everything.

Depending on severity, you call 911.  If it's that severe, you ideally have management do it so you don't have to deal with it.

One memorable instance was when a customer got zapped by an electric cart.

Customers overwhelmingly prefer to drag the power cable behind the cart rather than to hang it up correctly, which ruins the cables.  Frayed insulation, bent or broken prongs, broken plugs, or the cable gets snagged, pops off, and disappears forever.  The last one is my favorite since it disables the cart and the fatties either have to walk or leave.

Anyways, the guy went to unplug the cart, and the ruined cable just zapped the hell out of him.  A courtesy clerk said it even left burn marks up his arm, but I think he was exaggerating.

More than anything, the guy just seemed disappointed that he didn't die.  His wife was a ****ing harpy, so that was probably why.

There is no way the cord should have zapped him that much. The cord is rubber and if the cord was damaged that much the cart should have been put away so customers could not use it and whoever plugged it in is an idiot. Out of order sign does no good customers still use them. Charging sign does no good customers still get them. If the cart is damaged put it somewhere out of site of customers that is the safe thing to do.

An older lady fainted at my register on my second day here. We gave her some juice and called the pharmacists over, she had either really high or low blood pressure(forget which). She refused to let us call anyone for her or call 911 and she eventually left, what sucks is she probably drove here and she probably should not have been driving at all, she is/was probably a risk to herself and others by driving. I hope she is ok if she's still around.

Cant you read stupid? the cord was FRAYED! meaning if he touched a NON insulated EXPOSED wire yes you WILL get shocked bad considering it's plugged into a MAIN outlet. Youre the last person to be calling any one idiots dummy.

Yes I can read but there is also rubber part. But if they touched only the exposed then yes there would be a shock. Please forgive me. I once touched a bare wire plugged into a 220 outlet. And it did not say if he touched the bare wire or not. And the plugs break off someone comes by and falls on the piece that came off.

Had a lady collapse and go unconscious in a diabetic seizure. Her husband was there. Another customer that looked like a nurse in scrubs got my attention and called me over. I was like, what do you want me to do about it? Should I call 911? She said yeah, call 911! So I did. Then 911 had me on the line for a few minutes asking me questions and all. As soon as I got off the phone with 911 I told my co-worker and he totally freaked out, and said I was supposed to tell a manager. Instead of paging management, he rushed all the way to the office... Next, the EMTs were rushing in with a stretcher.

The manager thanked me but also berated me for not notifying management first, as that's the policy. She said, "I am supposed to call 911, not you." /shrug, the manager is not a trained EMT, so... Never heard what happened to the lady, but calling immediately could have saved her life. Calling a manager instead could have got her killed. As I said before, in the future I will just tell a customer to call since they are not bound by any silly Kroger rules that are more concerned with money over people's lives.

We had a guy a few weeks ago (homeless and drunk) steal a bottle of cooking sherry from the shelves and go drink it in the men's room while he was on the toilet having diarrhea. (We're in Utah, so we don't sell regular wine...) Anyhow, he passed out, slumped over and hit his head on the handicap rail and kept squirting out diarrhea and he fell to the floor. A customer found him passed out spread eagle on the floor with crap all over him and the floor. Our two CSMs had to go help him until the ambulance and police arrived. One of the two CSMs said it best: "You know, when I got up this morning, it never occurred to me that I would see another man's penis at work today."

You never do...you never do...

We had a problem with an electric scooter that DID have a frayed cord-someone who didn't notice it (me unfortunately) plugged it in and a wisp of smoke came from the electrical outlet. But there is no way someone could be "zapped" in a situation like that
