Kroger is greedy.

I work as a cashier in MS area get paid $10.75, the Aldis pays $16.10, and Walmart pays $11.00 thats start off pay for competitors. Ive been working at Kroger for 3 years with no advancement opportunities or 15 cent pay upgrades semi annually. I dont see how people work here for 10+ years if not a manager, lead or pharmacy technician

Go work for Aldis or Walmart.

At Aldis, you will be doing every job in the store and cashiering.  Unloading, stocking, etc while running the cash register.

Walmart micromanages every second of your shift.

If you can find a better job, go for it.

Kroger is good for supplementing a spouses' income or used as a stepping stone to a better job.  I am a department head and am compensated well for what I do.  The department manager positions don't pay as well per the newer contract but you never know when the contract will change for the better.

I worked as a pharmacy tech for 7 years, pay scale is few cents higher than regular grocery clerk, I don't understand how everybody think pharmacy techs make more $. They're not.

Also, 90% of my shift I was running cash register. Not different than a cashier.

Typo "they don't" not "they're not"

Minimum wage (or close to it), low hours, and crap benefits doesn't attract quality help.

And then scheduling shenanigans chases away anyone who has responsibilities, which is to say responsible people.

So the only kind of people that leaves is children, retards, burnouts, addicts, and people who need to barely work in order to maintain government benefits.  Not exactly a bunch of upwardly mobile go getters.

The other part is that it's not generally worth it to get promoted unless you need the hours.  The pay raise might be less than a dollar for about five more dollars worth of stress.  And on the front end, AFEM's have awful random schedules with lots of clopening.

That's Kroger for you. Ten cents above minimum with shi-tty pay raises. It's really only good if you're in the job for 8+ years other wise it sucks. That's why Kroger can't keep people. The union screwed the new hires about three contracts ago.

I find it interesting people always complain about their rate of pay. You know why any retailer is able to pay the rate of pay they are offering? Because your taking the job and doing the tasks, its called supply and demand. If you don't like the pay, get another job......the more jobs unable to be fulfilled causes wages to raise. Also, if you don't like being a cashier, I'm sure there are plenty of job in the food industry. Oh...wait......

While the company might not be the greatest at times, you know what your getting and have a very stable job.

Aldi's pays that much, but how many hours are they working their cashiers? Probably for 5 or 6 hours I bet. Maybe a little less.

This Kroger I work at is everything but stable. I have not seen one person cleaning since this pandemic evolved. This store doesnt follow safety guidelines. The store manager is always on the phone and lying about something. Ive been thinking about suing Kroger for negligence at this point. My availability requests are ignored and I put in for vacation three times this year they wouldnt let me off. My store manager is on vacation right now though. They want me to chase after thieves and thats not even supposed to be allowed. Kroger in one word TRASH.
