How do you deal with the morons and idiots at self check out every damn day? I do night classes every now and then and I'm baffled at how stupid society allows them self to get. It's called self check out for a reason. You do it your self. If you want us to baby sit you through the order just ask don't be an @$$ hole. If people reply back with f* you, sh*it that replies you're only proving my point.

I've been ruining sco for years and I've never seen customers this dumb and stupid. I've had three people put in their payment card and just stair at it.  Then shout profanities at it like a child when you challenge their intellect. It's called self check out for a reason. You do it your self. This is getting old being dumbed down to elementary school.

It's only funny until they start to yell and cuss at you, but then it's funny again when they start to yell and cuss at your manager.

This is getting old being dumbed down to elementary school.

The problem with written and spoken instructions being dumbed down to the grade-school level is that most grade-schoolers can follow them better than their parents.

"Please place your item in the bagging area."  "GODDAMNIT IT'S NOT ***ING SCANNING!!!1111!!111!! I HATE SELF CHECKOUT THIS IS WHY I NEVER GO TO SELF CHECKOUT!!1111!!!1!!111!"

Exactly how does being a cash at a grocery chain qualify you to judge the intellectual capacity of others? You slide products across a reader, it beeps, you stuff it into a bag.  You dont even calculate and count the change.   Thats not rocket science.  So, someone needs your help when an item wont scan and your rear flames.  Get over yourself.  One of your genius colleagues probably couldnt handle their huge responsibility of putting the correct price rfid sticker on a melon.

Well, that's the thing.

It isn't rocket science.  At self checkout, the customer slides a product across the scanner, it beeps, and then they stuff it in the bag, 123.

And there's clearly written and spoken instructions at every step of process, with the option for Spanish.

And it's simply too much for some people.

If they can't comprehend grade-school level instructions, or understand them and deliberately refuse to follow them, what am I supposed to think?

I don't have a DSM handy, but it doesn't reflect well on them.

Toward the end of my 'checker' career, I told an angry customer that the instructions are right on the screen. I got the reply, from a grown man who was there with his wife, mind you, "YEAH, WELL I CAN'T READ!" In my head, I was just thinking, "We expect that, that's why there's also audio instruction." I had enough and went into grocery soon after. Now I deal with management, which is infinitely worse. I wish checking paid as much; I'd go back to the dumb customers for whatever time I have left with the company.

Here are my pet peeves about self-checkout.

1. Stop cramming too many bags on the bag racks.  When there's too many bags on the rack, you can't open them fully and tall items such as cereal boxes won't stand up.

2.  Speaking of bags, sometimes they're hard to open, especially if it's a new set.  It's like trying to find the start of a new roll of Scotch tape.

3.  Allow customers to re-arrange items after they're bagged without having to go through the hassle of getting that Help is on the way screen and having the attendant come over and count your items.

4.  Let us know beforehand if the machine isn't accepting or giving back cash.

What you dont understand is that every store has a different type of SCO. Kroger being one of the more complicate ones, it can be hard for some people to get the hang of the SCO. You are on the SCO for hours so of course you think its obvious. Learn to appreciate the knowledge you know and just help people newer people to learn how to use the SCO. Your job is very easy and simple and if you cant get over yourself to just hit the card button when a customer cant figure it out, then maybe gets differnt job because this SCO is about as easy as its gonna get.

Sometimes I miss the old system.

You could actually hit the card button for the customer from the podium.
