deli counter customers and their phones
Permalink

I work in the deli at my store.   Recently during the last few weeks I have had several customers do something new.    When I ask them what they want, they respond "I want this" and show me their cell phone.    Some of them put their phone really close to me.    I politely reply that I cannot read their phone and could they please just tell me what they want, and some of them get mad about it but I don't know where your phone has been and I don't  want your phone in my face.

The customers sticking their phones in your face are Instacart shoppers. For some reason, they all do it! I assume they're trained to show you a picture of what they're looking for, instead of just asking you for the item by name.

We've had Insta-Cart shoppers say "I need this from deli; it's a hot item." We usually direct them to deli so they can pick it up themselves. For some reason, it gets them mad. Are they all like this?? Insta-Cart shoppers are so freakin WEIRD.

That's happened to me so many times these last few weeks. People just showing me their phones when they could have just asked for it by name like everyone else does.

The deli requires teamwork.

I thought you were going to say something about dorks who are next in line but can't be bothered to interrupt their idiot conversation, until you move to the next in line, when dork is suddenly ready to be served AND in a big sweat hurry.

I'm afraid the phones are just one of those pesky modern annoyances that change behavior for the worse sometimes.  Keep reliable coworkers handy.
