Next Union Contract UFCW #75!

Anyone else fed up with non-front end associates going to bag or run register.  They are abusing it so they can cut their hours passing the burden to other departments.   They don't care that it hurts the productivity of other departments especially those critically short staffed due to the pandemic and lack of hiring(not important or not a priority).   When the contract is renewed in August 2021 we should do a line item veto... yes to the wages and benefits etc. but NO to bagging or registers for non-Front end associates.

Yeah the whole clerk is a clerk is a clerk thing from the last contract made it a lot easier for them to screw over the departments. Yes, everyone should help when they can but they use that as an excuse to short staff every department so much.

Believe it or not, if the Union goes down that rabbit hole it might get a lot worse. At some point they might say all Clerks need to do ALL jobs, and eliminate job classifications. Other grocery companies make their workers work multiple departments (Ex. ALDI). The can only thing the Union can really fight for is wages or benefits, if they had any pull they would have tried to not allow so many SCO's in each store or the cutting of FE Cashier hours with the introduction of more SCO's. If anything the company will just include "Cashiering" into all other Department Job Descriptions etc. Its interesting how before they wanted the no lines and Friendly/Speedy cashiers to stand out from other grocers, now they just want to be like everyone else. If you think about it the FE hours can be 1/4-1/3 of the stores totals hours, but are seen as hours not producing direct sales. In reality the FE is the only department where hours are still left on the table that can be cut.

Exactly. it's not fair to short staff us, it's not fair to short staff other departments to bail us out. i've worked it from both sides you know.

This company just continues to take and take and take some more from the lowest paying employees (the ones at the store level).  The corporate clowns don't give 2 sh-ts about you, your family, the customers or even the managers all the way up the ladder to Cincinnati.  The expectations are completely unrealistic no matter what they were paying you.  The regional leaders stay scared daily that they will be replaced if their regions are not making their numbers, constantly putting pressure on their underlings to meet unrealistic goals and when the heat is on, people get fired (fair or not).  Starting out new hires at 9 bucks an hour, which is less than even fast food and 2 bucks an hour less than what Walmart starts you out at.  If you work their a while and quit, then try to get rehired, they will say you are ineligible due to the fact they have to pay you senority pay which could be as much as 13 bucks an hour to start as a part timer depending on your union contract.  Doesn't matter that you will not need to be retrained and will be a huge experienced asset.  Their ultimate goal is to have all part timers tending their stores being paid no more than 10 bucks an hour and to work the holy crap out of each and every one of them, have nearly all customers using clicklist or home delivery.  If employee quits, who cares, they will just say you had a bad attitude.  We will just hire somebody new at 9 bucks an hour.  Do yourselves a favor and get out of retail even if you have been in this for 10, 15 years; it is just going to get worse.  Acquire a skilled trade and find somewhere where you are wanted and needed and doesn't suck so much.

Why does Clicklist get priority? When the other departments are shorthanded they dont get help. Maybe Clicklist should move a bit faster and actually be forced to work OT once in a while.

You must work in a poorly managed store because we'll use the OT if we need it (i stayed over again today) and we also send people to help other departments when we have too many people at night.

Pickup get priority due to the nature of the department, each order/item that is picked is directly associated with a customer.  With a large number of customers moving to ordering online, having orders unfulfilled after being placed online looks bad and ultimately hinders yourself long term.  In reality, picking items can only go as fast as the clerk and or with customers blocking or moving slowly in the aisles.  Why do families always think they all need to go to the grocery store together? Why do family members always think they should be side by side with the person pushing the card?

How many others really want to just go "Beep, Beep" at people in the aisles, telling them to get out of your way!

In the next contract, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to make Department Leaders more part of STR MGMT.  Why not just make a new position as MOD and these people work every evenings (2p-10p)?

I retired from Kroger and a retired member of ufcw75 two years ago and that contract that will

expired in 2021 was my last contract I voted for before I retired. But i voted no on the contract because I did not think it was a good contract. the union forced that contract on us. I do not know how the union got people to vote for that contract but that contract sucked! I had 32 years when I retired and the contracts kept getting worse Over the years. I would not recommend voting for a new contract this year but people will vote for it why I have never figured it out. We need a new union because the current union is in Krogers pocket!
