New Meat Manager - Help
Permalink

Hi! I have been promoted to Meat Manager and while I know 90% of what I need to know (Seafood Manager for 20+ years) I have no one to help me learn the rest. Is there a resource or guide someone can direct me to? My store manager is overwhelmed and unhelpful.

Thanks!

If your manager is unable to help you maybe your backup knows something and could help you out. Other than that you may be able to contact another store in your area and ask their meat manager any questions you may have but I'd be willing to bet that they would be uninterested in helping you learn the job. Meat is, as you probably already know, a rough place to get help in since they tend to be under different contracts than the rest of the store and are of a particular subset of skills.

Best of luck, maybe you can ask more specific questions here and someone might be able to help you on a case-by-case basis.

Reach out to your Region's Field Specialist for Meat. They will be able to help you.

Thanks, I guess I am going to have to. My store manager is not happy that a female got the lead job (hence the unhelpfulness) so I am trying to keep it under the radar. I am sure "going around him" would only trigger him more. So much drama, classic Kroger.

As for specific questions, a great example: I still don't have access as manager to E-Schedule. I had been hand writing schedules and the Co-Manager has been putting them in for me. Last week the Store Manager got pissed that I hadn't put the schedule in yet. I told him I had it finished I would have Co-M put it in and he said "no, you have to do your job!" I said well I still don't have access and he said "no excuses, sit down with Co-M and learn how to do it" So I did, but just the basics, he had no time to explain how to make changes or corrections or any other features. Just here's the screen you need, enter the info. So I am sure next week is going to be the same story. I had hoped to find a guide or something I could study on my own so when I finally do get access I am ready to go.

Anyway, thanks everyone. I am thinking about asking the previous meat manager if he was willing to come back for a few hours and show me the few things I am not familiar with.

Make friends with your fellow dept managers and ask them to show you. Preferably the service manager since they take care of scheduling for alot of front end employees
