$15 starting pay

Heard a rumor today that Kroger was starting $15 for new hires. If it's true, doesn't Kroger realize that's going to cause a walk out for some of us who've been there over a decade and making a little more than people who are starting at Taco Bell?

Then quit and get rehired at 15

$15 a hours starting off isn't realistic right now. Yes, some retailers plan to pay $15 in a few years, but then isn't NOW. Also, for every additional $1.00 that is paid to new hires hourly wage, expect there to be 5-10 less people hired or 500 less hours a week.  I would also bet that the starting pay and the top out pay will also have a smaller range.

Eh, maybe the point is to make costly old-timers walk.  The union certainly doesn't care.

The other part is that that it isn't for a 40 hour week, so it doesn't even matter.

Yes, the old-timers might not like it, but in reality no one is paying what old-timers are making anyways.  Wage scales have been compressed for years, not too many companies are paying someone $18-$20 to stock a shelf or run a register.  If a company is paying $18-$20, your most likely the person in charge and or by yourself.

I don't think any old-timers would care if someone is busting that butt and making $$$ right off the street, but in most cases....the old-timers are simple baby-sitting new hires. Hell if you been around long enough, you already know which new hires will last and which ones will be gone within the first few weeks.

We need better information.  Better sharing and organized into a database.  Shine a light on this damned organization's activities.

By the way, Kroger is pushing hire-flyers that feature a QR to scan with your phone.  If tour want mal-ware worming its way through your stuff, go ahead.

This ain't happening.  Kroger starts people out at around 9 bucks an hour right now.  No way they are going to jump up 6 bucks an hour unless the useless current government makes them by raising the minimum wage.  Kroger already severely understaff their stores.  If you raise wages up to a minimum of 15 bucks an hour, you will have 3 total people working inside a store.

Oh they can raise it to 15 bucks an hour. Youll only get like 16 hours a week though lol. But that wouldnt be bad for. **** off part time job

Current pay is fine. Please dont cater to these people requesting more money. They either didnt care to go to school to better themselves, abuse the system till caught, or their black. Not a race thing.

Our contract just went thru with a step pay scale. 12.50 to start at 36hrs or less.  Step two is 13.00 or 13.50 and hr. Step 3 at 38 hrs or more a week u get 15.00. I'm classified an old timer as I have worked for Kroger for 20 yrs. I make 14.00 an hr now

12 years, $19.91/hr stocking here. I'm trapped until I can do some fairly big rearranging in my life and go back to school.

Union sets rates of pay. Either they will have to change journeyman pay or the union will get on their as-ses about it. In some areas where $15/hr is mandatory starting wage it's not at all uncommon. Kroger is well behind the ball but they are realizing if they want to keep staff they need to offer more than ten cents above minimum.
